While Orion does not have as many standalone hits as their first album, it is an album that can be listened on repeat long into the future.

Orion is a great record because it bridges mainstream and indie.

X-Ambassadors are the antidote to all the bland X Factor driven tat. Popular just became rather fun, by virtue of these songs being no fun at all.

  • Stitched Sound

It perfectly wraps up the most emotional, raw, and complex collection of songs that the band has released thus far.

Orion showcases a new phase of their lives; twenty-somethings becoming thirty-somethings, with the weathered experiences of frontman Sam Harris revealing a raw sense of confidence and assurance in these songs.

There is a lot of warmth and heart that stays with us after Sam sings the final notes. We are left feeling more comforted than we did before starting the album.

Orion lacks the continuity and cohesiveness of first record VHS and rather feels like a collection of singles. That said, the diversity and range of the bands sound is still present.

  • All Music

Orion is the work of a band on the hunt for a sound that balances outsized mainstream hooks with more fine-tuned R&B intensity, and so far, they've been successful.

Although quite eclectic musically, each track feels soulful, authentic, and electric.

Orion is a solid, mostly predictable release that ought to keep the core fanbase of X Ambassadors happy through the duration of the next album cycle.

X Ambassadors may have tried to hone the sound they have, but, when the sound you already have is somewhat mediocre, maybe that’s a sign it’s time to take some more significant risks.

I’ll probably listen to “ORION” a couple of more times — just for old times sake. Then I’ll listen to “VHS 2.0” some more, as it’s definitely the better album.
