Original Sin (INXS album)

Original Sin is the twelfth and final studio album by the Australian rock band INXS. It was released on physical media on 16 November 2010 by Epic Records, Atco Records and Polydor after having been released digitally on 28 October 2010. Original Sin features covers of their earlier songs, with each song featuring a guest singer. J.D. Fortune, who was the winner of the Rock Star: INXS competition and featured on the band's last album Switch, performed lead vocals for the 1990 track "The Stairs".-Wikipedia

  • SF Gate

January 9, 2011. It's a lame excuse for a tribute to Hutchence, who could out swivel any of the guests here in his sleep. It does nothing for the songs other than to drag them through the dirt.

. . . while Original Sin is likely to leave many hardened fans dismayed, there are a few encouraging moments which justify its addition to their cherished back catalog.

  • Cover Me Songs

January 11, 2011. . . . Original Sin proves eminently skippable. It can’t help but disappoint two camps: those who faithfully follow INXS’ recording output and those who want to hear some of their favorite musicians rock out on great songs.

  • The Washington Times

April 4, 2011. The project is billed as a tribute to the band’s core songwriting tandem, keyboardist Andrew Farriss and lead singer Michael Hutchence, who died in 1997. But the reworked songs mostly fail to wring something new and interesting out of the familiar.

November 24, 2010. This is a case of there being no necessity for this album, bottom line.

December 9, 2010. Original Sin, as a whole product, turns out to be a largely limp and entirely unjustified attempt at contemporising an adored and acclaimed back catalogue.

2010. While Original Sin does have a few cool moments, it’s merely not enough to make it a worthwhile purchase.

November 29, 2010. The focus is unique, but the outcome will considered a sin by even the most loyal fans.

December 10, 2010. You should buy this album for someone’s Christmas gift. Anyone who liks INXS or appreciates good musicianship will enjoy this album.

  • Louder Sound

May 25, 2011. Revisiting old material with a succession of different vocalists, the project sounds like an awkward and directionless tribute record.

April 5, 2011. Aussie rockers fail to recapture the magic with set of reimagined tunes.

December 22, 2010. Please avoid listening to this album at all costs. It was probably the worst thing I voluntarily listened to all year.

Movember 30, 2010. Original Sin is the kind of record fans of the band will hate and nobody else will care about. INXS need to stop and just live off the Greatest Hits royalties.

  • Redefine

January 26, 2011. I had no idea that original INXS members were not just overseeing the production of each song but also playing on them! That suggests an extra level of commitment on one level and also poses a fragile need to balance and temper their influence on the guest musicians.

  • Real Gone

February 15, 2011. ‘Original Sin’ is the work of a still struggling band – maybe they ought to have thrown in the towel in 1997.
