Pitchfork
Oh, Inverted World comes close, but too much of the material here recalls other bands to consider it a "great" album. Nonetheless, I still can't believe this is what most people think summer sounds like. I only wish this wretched season sounded so good.

Stereogum
The qualities that made Oh, Inverted World so winsome — the personal touch, the undefinable magic, that sense of finding glimpses of yourself in somebody else’s faded photographs — they all started to diminish with each successive Shins album. But for a while there, this band really did turn my world upside down.

The Shins start off strong with easygoing and lively indie pop on their delightful debut LP.

Drowned in Sound
"Oh, Inverted World" is the Shins debut on Sub Pop* after years of releasing seven inch singles, many on Omnibus Records as Flake Music*. The time they spent leading to this shining moment has been well worth it - they are riding a wave of publicity, critical acclaim, and general good will.

All Music
Oh, Inverted World is so full of ideas and emotions, and so fully realized, that it’s hard to believe it's just 33 minutes long. Whether or not the album lives up to the breathless "It’ll change your life!" claims made about it in Garden State, the less ironic direction of 2000s indie begins here.
