Ultimate Classic Rock
Obscured by Clouds remains one of rock's most under-appreciated treasures — and perhaps the most underrated album in Pink Floyd's impressive discography.
-
All Music
As startlingly advanced as these last two songs are, they're not enough to push the rest of Obscured by Clouds past seeming just like a soundtrack.
-
Classic Rock Review
Another element in the string of strikes against the album’s success was early pressings of the album were defective with excessive sibilance. Despite all of this, the album is quite good musically.
-
Psychedelic Baby Magazine
They had a lot more experience and therefore produced a much finer product.
-
Sputnik Music
Obscured by Clouds shows a lot of what was classic rock, mostly thanks to Dave Gilmour.
-
Paste Magazine
Unmistakable Pink Floyd: simultaneously heavy and weightless, leaden and spry, spacey and earthy.
-
Pop'stache
Pink Floyd’s best album, Obscured By Clouds is also their least heard.
-
Analog Revolution
It is very forward looking; A lot of the ideas and musical themes on this record faded out of the spotlight after this album, many of them not to be fully explored again for 20-30 years.

Mr. Miniike's Tea-Sipping Reviews
An enjoyable and sonically interesting listen, but not a particularly memorable or enrapturing one.
-
The Audiophile Man
Compression is largely absent. If there is any, it’s there in tiny, subtle ways to possible enhance a frequency here or there but there’s nothing obvious or out of place. A welcome release.
-
Medium
It’s amazing that they recorded such a strong album during the recording of their next album; that album that would give a necessary boost to Pink Floyd’s career.
-
Consequence of Sound
In any case, it’s not Floyd doing what Floyd does best, and it would soon be all too appropriately obscured by the band’s first bona fide classic.
-
Louder Sound
Obscured By Clouds gave the group an opportunity to let their hair down in a short burst and deliver to order, something as a band they were never able to do again.
-
Countdown Kid
As a whole, the album holds up pretty well, even if it was just biding time until the breakthrough album that the band had already begun composing.
-
The Pink Floyd Fandom
The album "Obscured by Clouds" is the album where any true Pink Floyd would agree was the point where the band found their niche in the genre.
-
Only Solitaire
It's like, you know, a little brother to Dark Side - less proud, less braggart, and less handsome, but just as diligent and laborious . . . Simply Excellent.

One Minute Record Reviews
OBC is the calm before the earth-shattering storm that would be The Dark Side of the Moon.
-
Grinning Planet
Like medieval alchemists, Pink Floyd's work on Obscured By Clouds refines the sometimes raw elements of their earlier efforts to produce an album that is fully polished.
-
Aphoristic Album Reviews
There aren’t any well known Floyd songs on Obscured by Clouds, which is perhaps why it’s been overlooked, but there are a bunch of very good tracks that make it a treasure trove for fans who may have burned out on their more popular releases from the same era.

John McFerrin Music Reviews
Aside from the mentioned weaknesses, though, there is nothing to dislike about this album, especially if you're a big fan of Dark Side. Get it soon, it's a nice piece of work.

If you're like me and you've heard Dark Side of the Moon eight billion times in the past year and you long for a similarly sounding album, then Obscured By Clouds is the best possible option for you.

Midnight Punk
Moody and evocative it has a nice dark feel. One thing becomes apparent – musically Pink Floyd do sound like the finished article.
