Show All-
Pitchfork
Throughout No Mercy, Tip remains an absolutely impeccable rapper, delivering even his lamest pieces of self-help nothingness in masterful clumps of singsong cadence and slurry double-time bounce. I get the impression that he could still absolutely rip a track to shreds if he could only get himself excited about the prospect.
-
Rolling Stone
No Mercy is the sound of a rapper addressing his idiocy without sacrificing his swagger.
-
The Guardian
You can only hope he rediscovers his swagger.
-
Slant Magazine
Mostly, the album shows that T.I.‘s lyrical side is not worthy of much attention.
-
Entertainment Weekly
That crown must be getting heavy.
-
USA Today
Fans have stuck by T.I., and his album is worthy of their attention.
-
The Los Angeles Times
Levity was never the strong suit of the man who named his debut “I’m Serious,” but “No Mercy” never even pauses to smirk.
-
The A.V. Club
Prison has only strengthened T.I.’s penchant for introspection and homemade philosophizing, but No Mercy nevertheless suffers from an eagerness to be all things to all possible demographics.
-
Pop Matters
Oft-delayed and seldom promoted, T.I.'s latest release arrives as perhaps the final nail in his popstar coffin. The King isn't dead, but he's certainly been dethroned.
-
All Music
Neither redemptive nor triumphant, No Mercy is the MC's least compelling release thus far.
-
The Washington Post
This much-delayed seventh album is hardly progress. He sounds more trapped than ever, by his own identity as a star and socially corrected man.
-
Newsday
The usual wide range of issues, with an unusual range of quality.
-
Boston Globe
The retitled “No Mercy’’ often sounds at war with itself; the tone of the album feels all wrong — part of it exults in hedonistic impulses while other parts are acts of contrition and pleas for sympathy.
-
Pretty Much Amazing
No Mercy is not musically groundbreaking in any way, though the lyrics do inspire a sort of social consciousness.
-
IGN
No Mercy is far from a failure, but the inconsistent album is far from the rousing comeback it sets out to be.
-
Prefix
No Mercy is a valley, not a peak, in a career that has seen plenty of both.
-
Blare Magazine
While not necessarily revolutionary, T.I. and his tag team partners achieve some definite victories together.
-
Pop'stache
T.I. doesn’t know how to act according to his fame or his power in the community. And that is the real shame behind No Mercy, a largely throwaway LP.
-
Beats Per Minute
The album’s top heavy, and its finest moments come when T.I.’s able to look past himself, whether it be to attack the legal or education system.
-
iHipHop
No Mercy won’t tarnish T.I.’s track record, although it could have prospered had the ATL star taken the road less traveled.
-
Rap Dose
While there are some good tracks throughout, the weak beats and over-shadowing features make for a painful and confusing experience.
-
DJ Booth
When T.I.’s truly on, he’s as good as ever.
-
Rap Reviews
Utterly forgettable and insubstantial, "No Mercy" is a contrived, sputtering guest-filled affair certain to alienate his longtime fans.
-
Parle Magazine
No Mercy is a scope into the last couple of chaotic years he has endured, and documents another chapter in the life of Clifford Harris.
-
NOHO Arts District
T.I.’s best work to date.
