Nevermind
| NirvanaNevermind
Nevermind is the second studio album by American rock band Nirvana, released on September 24, 1991 by DGC Records. Produced by Butch Vig, it was the band's first release on the label, as well as the first to feature drummer Dave Grohl. Despite low commercial expectations, the album became a surprise success, largely due to the popularity of its lead single "Smells Like Teen Spirit". By January 1992, it had replaced Michael Jackson's Dangerous at number one on the US Billboard 200, and also produced three other successful singles: "Come as You Are", "Lithium", and "In Bloom". Nevermind was responsible in part for bringing both alternative rock and grunge music to a mainstream audience, and has been ranked highly on lists of the greatest albums of all time. -Wikpedia

Nevermind is basically a great fake-out. It presents itself as an off-the-cuff explosion, a from-the-gut expression of realness and energy in the grand punk tradition. -2011

A flawed classic, but a classic nonetheless. -2007
-
Allmusic
it's simply a great modern punk record -- but even though it may no longer seem life-changing, it is certainly life-affirming, which may just be better.

The Telegraph
Nevermind gave many bands the confidence to give it a go, knowing that they didn’t need the best equipment to succeed. -2016

Nevermind does succeed at putting Nirvana in its proper place, paying respect to the legend and the loud, irreverent, humanistic rock ’n’ roll band behind it. -2011

Nirvana has built this one for speed—that would be speed with a capital “S”—and it sure is fun to drive. A little bit punk, a little bit metal, a little bit country, a little bit rock’n’roll. -2016

There's no denying, Nevermind really did give a revolutionary twist to the wheel of popular music in 1991, possibly the last one in known history.

'Nevermind’ is a classic album; it represents the perfect synthesis of the seemingly irreconcilable both lyrically and musically and - oh yes - it also boasts a classic cover. -2018

Classic Rock Review
Nevermind isn’t a terrible album – there are some really good tracks – but much of the album is entirely forgettable.

Nevermind is the joint twenty-first selling album of all time. It is definitely not an underground punk record. -2011

Nirvana may not stand a chance of selling anywhere near as many records as Guns N’ Roses, but don’t tell Cobain; you never know how he’ll react. -1991

Nevermind may have been built on the backs of others, like the Pixies, but it was a landmark album that changed the musical landscape for artists and fans alike. -2011

The Top Tens
Overall, it is no where near one of the bands best, but it is still one of my favorites, if that makes any sense at all. It's one of their easiest songs to play, and was way too commercial, but inspired many musicians to come, and is unbelievably catchy.

Loudwire
Certainly not a shabby grade, but its a far cry from all the post-revolutionary praise. -2011

That sense of hostile irony may be one of the most underrated qualities on Nevermind, whose sly dismissals and cagey lyrics sound like an extension of Cobain's scabrous guitars and Dave Grohl's thundering drums.

Nirvana have emotion, raw emotion, the sort where the singer bares his soul all the way down the line and with the use of but a few simple words and phrases communicates way deeper with the listener than this sort of music is meant to. -2011

“Nevermind” needs to be heard in 2018, if only to remember where it took music for the next decade and beyond and as a remnant of what rock once was when it broke free. -2018

Nevermind contained more than just recycled music; it was rock at its most powerful and cathartic and should be remembered for just that, even if the ultimate tragedy of the band cannot be forgotten. -2011

The album is undeniably louder now, but when I compared tracks back-to-back with the original 1991 CD, I found I preferred the new version. -2011

Vibe Rant
Perhaps the biggest problem with this album was just how catastrophically big it was, the fame and success was too much for Cobain who took his life two years after the success of the album. -2017
