pitchfork
Compton rapper YG and producer DJ Mustard have forged the type of symbiotic producer-rapper bond that's scarcely been seen on a mainstream field of play since Drake and Noah "40" Shebib. On YG's major-label debut, Mustard’s production and YG’s songwriting have both gone deliciously widescreen.

My Krazy Life is an excitement-packed journey back to the days when the hardest gun talk and most thrilling, plus provocative, put-downs came from the underbelly of the Golden State, but as much as the album revels in murder, misogyny, and mayhem, Y.G.

consequenceofsound
My Krazy Life approaches West Coast rap with all the new-school determination of Allen Iverson driving past Michael Jordan from the top of the key.

“My Krazy Life” is a successful debut album that achieves most of what it sets out to achieve.

After a series of setbacks and title changes, YG finally releases his anticipated debut album "My Krazy Life."
-
sputnikmusic
Envoking the vibe of other west coast classics without directly apeing them, YG's My Krazy Life is the dawning of a new day for distinctly California gangsta rap.
-
Rollingstones
A 46-minute tale of celebrations and regrets, the debut album from West Coast hot property YG is the most ambitious hip-hop concept LP in a minute: a 24-hour ride where he gives detailed instruction on how to rob a home – then gives even more details about the consequences.

My Krazy Life is the first album studio album from YG and it’s quite enjoyable.

My Krazy Life won’t catapult YG onto Compton’s Mt. Rushmore, but it proves that he deserves to stick around long enough for everyone to take notice of a possible future fixture in West Coast Hip-Hop.
-
nostalgic for the present
With My Krazy Life, YG & DJ Mustard have proven that the West Coast is back for good this time and, given the amount of talent that is still to come (such as Cozz and Vince Staples), it seems unlikely that this will change anytime soon.
-
complex
Following the loose theme of a day in YG’s life, he and DJ Mustard pulled from West Coast classics to invoke a throwback feeling that harkens back to the G-funk days, without feeling dated.
-
da shelter
There are instances where the production sounds repetitive and YG’s simple flow and at times struggle raps are at times unbearable on certain songs but this was surprisingly a strong debut from the young emcee from Bompton.

There are plenty of very important rappers showing up here, but YG holds his own against all of them - Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, Drake and Schoolboy Q included.
-
hiphopdx
Uniting to showcase more than the stereotypical regional trends that have powered their initial individual success, YG and DJ Mustard have seized opportunity and capitalized on proper timing for this formal arrival.

The cinematic narrative tells the story of survival amongst chaos; it's safe to say despite his Krazy Life, YG is among the fittest that have survived.
-
stereogum
My Krazy Life has so much going for it: Songwriting, momentum, unified production, conceptual cohesion, a sense of place, a sense of personality. DJ Mustard, YG's chief musical collaborator, uses the album as a chance to explore just how far his signature sound can go.

'My Krazy Life' is nothing less than a gangsterrap rethink that fascinates the tradition of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, the conceptual album approach from Kendrick Lamar's 'good kid, mAAd City' and the minimal, intense ratchet music sound that is turning West Coast Strap into a commercial force again.
