Motown: A Journey Through Hitsville USA is an album by Boyz II Men. It was released on November 13, 2007 by Decca Records. The album was produced by American Idol's Randy Jacksonand Boyz II Men. David Simone and Winston Simone were Executive Producers for the album. The album is a tribute to some of Motown's classic songs, including "Just My Imagination" by The Temptations, "The Tracks of My Tears" by The Miracles and "Reach Out I'll Be There" by The Four Tops.     It's not that the disc won't please fans, because it likely will, despite Boyz II Men's continued shortage of new songs; but it's nearly impossible at this point to add anything to the likes of "It's the Same Old Song," "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing," or "Money (That's What I Want)" -- no matter how well they are handled.

    Throughout the nineties, Boyz II Men were the undeniable heir apparent for all the big Motown groups that defined a memorable musical age. Its right that they should not only take their place among the greats in this musical tribute to Motown, but be in a musical dialogue with these soul pop Gods. That Boyz II Men should place such an intimate dialogue with those masters on digital for our listening pleasure may finally earn them an accolade that has recently eluded this decorated act: cherished.

  • Soul In Stereo

    Boyz II Men are the descendants of the Motown sound, so this tribute to the era isn’t all that surprising. And that’s the problem – it’s a great history lesson but not much else. Despite the expert performances and cool a capella moments it’s a pretty predictable set.
