Hunt’s all for earning his keep — just as he was earning those yards back on the football field. He doesn’t miss it, really, but he likes the competition.

Buzzfeed got it right when they said Sam Hunt was a country star for the Instagram age. We’re entering a new era, and everything has gone digital.

Ultimately, Hunt's ability to fuse his classical construction with modern flair and pass it off as no big thing is what makes his debut something more than just another album from the bro next door.

I did not like Montevallo by Sam Hunt in any way.

Montevallo is a disaster. It’s a somewhat pop-country experiment with absolutely no direction or identity.

I don’t know if these are the right choices, and how he works against women is worrisome, and I don’t know how he will ride out the death of Bro-Country, but maybe if Taylor Swift can give everything up, maybe Hunt can play similar games.

It’s a very good album that features some incredibly-written songs. While Sam is associated with being a country artist, I think there are a number of songs on the album that some will say aren’t country.

For the most part, though, “Montevallo” establishes Hunt as a more sensitive and distinctive newcomer than most of his bro-country peers.

Sam Hunt is one of the three male country solo artists who I will voluntarily purchase an album from and enjoy.

  • Sounds like Nashville

Country music is evolving and this album is a perfect example of the direction it’s headed. It may not sound like anything else on country radio, but his lyrics still tackle the same familiar subjects. Sam Hunt is a country singer, but like everyone else, he has many layers.

This is the kind of album that you can play from beginning to end with no skips. If you’re not really into country music, Sam is definitely the artist that will get you on board.

“Downtown’s Dead” isn’t nearly as exciting as the aforementioned gems from his debut album.

He’s an artist with an audience, and in today’s country music scene it makes him an artist worth watching.

If you haven’t checked out Montevallo, well you need to get on that, like NOW!

This album could be considered country but has so much outside influence it almost doesn't have a genre. In Hunt's case, it almost works for him. Almost.

I cannot fault this album and I hope that a tour will be on the cards with him headlining the tour at some point in the near future.

Overall, Montevallo is a step in the right direction for Sam Hunt.
