This album doesn’t exist strictly on it’s musical merits though. It’s the little elements, often overlooked, that are brush strokes on this masterpiece.

AllMusic
Though the abstract rappers finally betrayed a few commercial ambitions for Midnight Marauders, the happy result was a smart, hooky record that may not have furthered the jazz-rap fusions of The Low End Theory, but did merge Tribe-style intelligence and reflection with some of the most inviting grooves heard on any early-'90s rap record.

Midnight Marauders’ tracklist is an exhibition of seemingly boundless creativity, each track distinct, original, and memorable.

Genius
I feel that there is enough evidence to indicate that Midnight Marauders is a certified classic, which is an always positive, and enjoyable listen. And deserves to be help in the upper-echelons on all-time rap albums.

Despite an often light and maybe even silly air, the album has a certain maturity to it that you don’t get with ATCQ’s earlier albums; for this, it has nearly infinite replay value, and to me is a true classic.

XXL
It established Tribe as a commercial, mainstream almost pop group, but it did it by being completely true to their rudiments, and it did it by finding the greatest jazz samples and making the most classic underground hip-hop they could make.
