(1972) Meddle is killer Floyd from start to finish.

  • Ultimate Classic Rock

'Meddle' didn't have a very auspicious start, having evolved out of a series of experiments in music making with everyday objects titled 'Nothings,' 'Son of Nothings' and then 'Return of the Son of Nothings.' Yet, in exploring so far outside of the realm of the every day, they were clearly onto something.

The album is one of the Floyd's most consistent explorations of mood, especially from their time at Harvest, and it stands as the strongest record they released between Syd's departure and Dark Side.

Without The Dark Side of the Moon there would be no Pink Floyd as we know them today. Without Meddle there would have been no Dark Side of the Moon.

An outstanding and ambitious effort that is underappreciated.

It contains enough experimental music to make it interesting to the art lover, just enough melodic songs to be liked by the pop music lover, and a few brilliant moments of theatrical rock n roll to make it collectible to those who love The Dark Side of the Moon.

Occasionally essential, yet too often disposable to be considered classic.

If your Pink Floyd repertoire tends toward chart busters like Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall, then you owe it to yourself to dive into what came before and made what came after possible. That would be Meddle.

In my opinion Pink Floyd always comes out with one of the most unique albums out there. This definitely one of them. If you are just getting into Pink Floyd this is one of the very first albums you should definitely listen to.

Though it isn't the masterpiece Dark Side is, it is still one of Floyd's best albums, and essential for any fan of Pink Floyd.

With Gilmour taking a more prominent role, Meddle transitions easily, even gracefully between hurried jams and hushed folk, between loud and quiet, revealing a band finally mastering dynamics and making their best album since The Piper at the Gates of Dawn.

Meddle is solid is because it contains the best composition that the Floyd has done up to this point and in my opinion, one of the top five songs they ever did: “Echoes.”

Really good, truthfully, but not the huge step up from Atom Heart Mother that everybody makes it out to be.

What Pink Floyd did on what’s considered their ‘breakout’ album, was for the first time, to find a collective voice, and collaborate full throttle, creating a sort of musical bridge between their earlier works, and what was to become their triumphant earth shattering release Dark Side Of The Moon.

This album takes me to another world. All pink floyd albums are Godly. But the song "Echoes" simply Takes Meddle to heavenly status. Personally I feel all pink floyd albums are like stars in the night sky. At times meddle appears larger (can hardly tell the difference).
