Kerrang!
Everything else knits together perfectly, and it’s certainly an impressive feat, but you can’t help but feel that some creative tension and idea-bouncing in there might have led to some more invention and exploration in the album’s midsection. Nevertheless, though, this is still an impeccably delivered slab of hard rock fun.

Louder
Mammoth WVH's debut album is high-tech, energetic, relentless and thrilling.

Drew's Reviews
You really can’t help but root for Wolfgang Van Halen, not just because of the footsteps he’s following, but because Mammoth WVH helps refill a musical well quickly running dry.
-
Blabbermouth
Throughout it all, a strong impression is given of a musician with a very clear idea of what he wants to do and all the requisite skills to make that vision real. "Mammoth" exists in no one's shadow. This is a bold and eminently lovable debut, full of great songs and electrifying performances. A chip off the old block, then, but this is the start of a new legacy.

Splice Magazine
Mammoth WVH is filled with supremely well-crafted songs that are chock full of intoxicating riffs. With levels of musicianship that are off the chart by most standards, Wolfgang Van Halen has shown that he isn’t withering away in the shadows of his father’s legacy. Not only is he become an extension of it, but with this album he has stepped out of the shadows and put his own unique stamp on the music world.

Cryptic Rock
After one listen, we can honestly say the apple did not fall far from the tree and the proof is on Mammoth WVH. A week after being released, Mammoth WVH was a smash hit right out of the gate. The album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock, Hard Rock, and Indie Rock Charts, hit No. 2 for both Top Album Sales and Current Album Sales, and lastly Mammoth WVH debuted at No. 12 overall on the Billboard Top 200 – a feet we rarely see in Rock these days.

Rock 'N' Load
This has to be one of the albums of the year, each song is crafted to seamlessly flow to the next, considering the length of the album this is no mean feat, all the while adding to the Van Halen legacy.

Metal Riot
All in all a solid and impressive outing right out the gate under incredible scrutiny. It is way more commercial than what I usually hang with, but you have to give props where due. Wolfgang is clearly dedicated and a great dude who deserves all the accolades and appreciation coming his way. I bet these tunes sound even better live!

Uncivil Revolt
Wolfgang Van Halen created his own legacy with Mammoth WVH. This outstanding debut album is peppered with different styles of rock. While he might have a little bit of the Van Halen sound in a few of his songs, Wolfie displayed his vast knowledge in music. This debut has lived up to its expectations. Hard rock has a new hero, and his name is Wolfgang. This is simply the beginning for him. Eddie is flashing his famous smile as I am sure he is proud of his son. To Mammoth WVH, I salute you. Horns up!!!

All Music
Combining elements of metal, grunge, alternative, and hard rock, the 14-track LP includes the single "Distance," which was written as a tribute to his late father, who passed away in 2020.

Diary of a Music Addict
But the songwriting is strong, and I find myself sucked into the album every time I play a song. It’s definitely one of the best rock records of the last few years. If you like modern rock, listen to this record. It’s been 8 years in the making, and it’s worth it.
-
Clearing out the Clutter
However, this album is a jaw-dropping debut that may well rejuvenate the entire rock genre, much like his father and uncle did many years ago.
-
Distorted Sound
It may have been a long time coming, but MAMMOTH WVH marks an incredibly promising new chapter in the career of Wolfgang Van Halen, and more than showcases what this young veteran is capable of, packed to bursting as it is with both powerful hook-filled rock songs that already sound tailor-made for the stadiums MAMMOTH WVH will soon be playing alongside GUNS N’ ROSES, and with interesting more-experimental diversions into softer territory that may yet find a wider audience outside of the norm. Either way though, this is a perhaps-expectedly solid debut from a project we can only begin to imagine what comes next for.
-
Sonic Perspectives
Riffs and hooks abound on Mammoth WVH’s debut, one of the most expected albums of 2021. Wolfgang Van Halen wisely pursued a new sound, closer to his musical influences than to his heritage, and put together an impressive collection of songs. Melodic, heavy and emotionally charged, this is a great starting point of a promising musical career for Wolfie, and a welcome shot of adrenaline on the current sonic landscape.
-
Ultimate Classic Rock
The songwriting is sharp and admirably varied throughout Mammoth WVH, with the churning bass, chiming acoustic guitars and yearning vocals of "Resolve" and the epic metallic closing track "Stone" adding to the album's display of creative range. There are plenty of clever, complex instrumental bits to reward repeated listens, but they never detract from the disciplined focus on structure, hooks and melodies.

Weekend Notes
Mammoth WVH is not Van Halen v2.0. There are so few hallmarks of his father's band in this, and yet it works as a great rock album. He is setting his own sound, his own pace, and this debut shows that it is working. He might be Eddie's son, but he's not Eddie's clone.

KNAC
It may not have been the album that either Wolfgang or many ardent fans of his father’s work had immediately expected to appear under the proverbial VAN HALEN umbrella – especially following the sudden passing of the talented guitar legend whose legacy as an unadulterated pioneer of the instrument’s progression has mostly been unmatched – but Mammoth WVH is an album that needed to be released and to exist moreso for itself and by itself. And it accomplishes exactly that.
