MAGNETIC
| Goo Goo DollsMAGNETIC
Magnetic is the tenth studio album by American rock band Goo Goo Dolls, released on June 11, 2013, through Warner Bros. Records. The album is available on CD, Vinyl and as a digital download. The recording process took place during the latter half of 2012 and into early 2013. Rzeznik thought of the album title during a phone conversation with his manager, who told Rzeznik to "think of a title for the record. Try to use one word." Magnetic was the first word that came to Rzeznik's mind. This is the last album to feature drummer Mike Malinin who left the band in December 2013. - WIKIPEDIA
Critic Reviews
Show All-
popMATTERS
Too many songs are formally organized with the same approach and formula in mind. Distinctiveness takes a hit because of this, with only a few notable exceptions.
-
ALL MUSIC
Rzeznik and Takac are merely sticking with the program that they helped to create, but they have honed their sound so close to the corporate bone that the marrow is beginning to show, and if they're not careful, there soon may be nothing left to feed the masses with.
-
sputnik music
Magnetic generally lacks the catchiness and vitality of past efforts, as the band tries in vein to reinvent the wheel but fails to accomplish anything as impressive as ‘Iris’, ‘Here is Gone’, ‘Black Balloon’, ‘Let Love In’, [insert hit single here].
-
Alternative Addiction
Magnetic will be memorable but not nearly as much if they had made this record their traditional way.
-
CRYPTIC ROCK
Magnetic is enjoyable listen of dreamy pop rock for new and old fans alike.
-
WEEKENDER
It’s not a “bad” album by any stretch of the imagination, but not on par with what this band once was, or even is currently on the live stage. With every passing album, the Dolls seem less like The Replacements’ bratty cousins and more like Taylor Swift’s big brothers.
-
Newsday
the Goos sound more upbeat and more interested in sounding current than they have in years.
-
UPROXX
the songs are punchier and more rhythmic than those on the fairly downbeat 2010 “Something For The Rest Of Us.”
-
INQUIRER.NET
All in all, Magnetic is a commendable effort by the band with a few tracks really living up to the band’s full potential.
-
Evigshed Mag
Magnetic is a fresh version of their previous works. They added a little amount of new sounds, efficient and appealing. Recommended for long-time fans.
-
OUTLINE
Fresh, upbeat and still catchy as hell.
-
New-Transcendence
Overall I would describe the album “Boxes” in a few definitive words like Sentimental, Intimate and Reflective. Vocally and lyrically this album packs a punch if you listen to it and not hold older albums and songs over the Goo Goo Dolls head and like mentioned before to just live in the moment and listen to the music as a whole.
-
GEEKSHIZZLE
The album definitely kicks off with upbeat and fresh music, but in the end it’s the same rhythms and lyrics packaged differently.
-
ROCK ON PHILLY
Magnetic wasn’t quite there but it’s still a good product. The Goo Goo Dolls have what it takes to keep producing high-quality music.
-
hellbound music
If you stopped paying attention to this Buffalo, New York trio when they started writing light-hearted jitters: remain on present course.
-
MUSE
This is not an album that marks a band in the twilight of their twenty-seven year career, but one that heralds new beginnings and second chances.
-
AU.
It’s fantastic to hear material that has a combination of heart and soul as well as energy and fun atmosphere.
-
The Walleye
If bland became a band, it would be the Goo Goo Dolls on their new album.
-
White Noise
So go ahead and hate on them for creating catchy melodies and irresistible lyrics, I’m sure you’ll be singing along to the songs once you’ve heard it on the radio.

Listen Here Reviews
Dry, boring, and lacking of substance, Magnetic will not be finding a permanent place in my record collection.
-
Full throttle Rock
Overall, Magnetic is a well crafted outing. If you’ve purchased a Goo Goo Dolls album in the past decade or so you’ll have a fair idea what to expect. They have perfected a formula that clearly works for them and they are happy to continue down that road, after all the numbers don’t lie - you don’t sell 10 million albums and become a four time Grammy nominee if you’re not doing something right.
