Magic

The 13-track Magic, whose producers include John Fields (Goo Goo Dolls, All Time Low) and Tony Hoffer (Beck, Air, M83), continues Rector's positive vibes for which he's become known, this time with a hint of reminiscence. Across the album Rector will simultaneously reflect on his past and hopefully look to the future, a sentiment inspired by his daughter Jane, who was born last July.

The quintessential party band has returned to its roots, and the result is a fun, if not terribly courageous, album of 11 songs.

  • Louder Sound

Sadly, the sun’s come up on that whole scene and songs like the jingling Perfect Planet and the risible Justin Bieber now sound misplaced and horribly out of step. Come in, Smash Mouth, your 15 minutes really are up.
