LIVING THINGS
| Linkin ParkLIVING THINGS
Living Things (stylised in all caps) is the fifth studio album by American rock band Linkin Park. It was released under Warner Bros. Records and Machine Shop Recordings on June 20, 2012, in Japan, and throughout the rest of the world during the following week. Production was handled by vocalist Mike Shinoda and Rick Rubin, who both co-produced the band's previous two studio albums Minutes to Midnight (2007) and A Thousand Suns (2010). Living Things would be their last album to be produced by Rubin. -wikipedia
Critic Reviews
Show All-
Billboard
is simply a minor effort in an impressive discography, and one that should translate well to Linkin Park's live show
-
Loud Wire
we as living things might want to take a closer look at what they're laying down
-
Consequence of Sound
we give Living Things a sparkling toss to the trash bin from downtown
-
Rolling Stone
Five LPs in, they’ve traded turntable scratches for dub-step flourishes, but still lean on Bennington’s harrowing hooks, including the one on “Burn It Down,” one of their best singles yet.
-
AV Club
Living Things is trim and muscular, all pumping fists and bulging neck veins.
-
BBC
Californian mash-masters return with a suitably state-of-the-art album.
-
blabbermouth.net
the majority of this record feels like the band was playing it safe and pushing for sales over substance
-
The Guardian
Living Things feels more like consolidation than advancement, perhaps in an attempt to pacify fans alienated by the new direction, while keeping new converts interested, too
-
NME
A predictable earache
-
Immortal Reviews
one of the most glaring examples of why Linkin Park is the most versatile band.
-
Sputnik Music
it’s nice to see them alive and kicking again, but we’re going to need to see quite a bit more before we can call it a comeback
-
Spin
Living Things is a retrenchment only to the extent that it foregos the tedious spoken-word passages and aimless drone-y bits of A Thousand Suns
-
Bloody Disgusting
an extremely polished album, one that sounds fantastic with a wealth of tones and sonic offerings. However, half of the album is extremely strong while the other half suffers from being little more than filler tracks.
-
Noise Creep
Powerful, hypnotic and thoroughly true to form, this is a brilliant, definitive collection that represents an important band at its peak - yet again.
-
UPROXX
an album that pulls in all the elements that made millions of rock/rap fans love them initially, but they manage to shake it up plenty in fresh and sometimes surprising ways
-
The Top Tens
It was a mediocre and disappointing album that was bombarded with electronics.
-
Our Vinyl
You can hear the effort the group put into making that record that, for other artists, wins back the old fans, but that effort is blatantly obvious, and makes the album seem far too false.
-
B-Sides
All in all, “Living Things” embodies what we already know about Linkin Park with a few stylistic changes thrown in to keep us interested.
-
Guitar Planet Magazine
between a new found subtlety (“Castle Of Glass”, “Roads Untraveled”), and a rediscovered swagger, there’s little reason for complaint
-
LP Fan Corner
LIVING THINGS is the best album Linkin Park has made. Period.
-
All Music
a fitting soundtrack for aging rap-rockers who are comfortable in their skin but restless at heart
-
Cool Try
just an honest and up front band doing what they do best. Rocking the fuck out!
-
Hit the Floor Magazine
far from perfect and there are moments when the band tread dangerously close to being boring, but on the whole it is a pleasant surprise to say the least
-
Spectrum Pulse
It's thoroughly mediocre, and for a band that used to put out damn good music, it's a disappointment.
-
Alternative Addiction
As an album experience, it’s the bands best ever.
-
The Shields Gazette
a record which has something to offer old and new fans
-
Reflections of Darkness Music Magazine
So as it lacks heart it consequently doesn’t really get mine quite going either.
-
RyanKantor.com
I hesitate to call it great, and an album without a single great song isn’t that good
-
Mithun on the Net
very listenable, has only one interlude and is yet another album joining my Linkin Park collection
-
Illinois Eagle
one of the most insightful and experimental albums for the modern music scene
-
Yuppee
their slickest album to date
-
Espy Rock
That’s not to say the album isn’t enjoyable; it is.
-
Wrong Mog
Living Things feels more like consolidation than advancement, perhaps in an attempt to pacify fans alienated by the new direction, while keeping new converts interested, too
-
Retcon Nation
For everyone else; it's a semi-decent record that, although let down a good third of the tracks, manages to combine several music genres and influences into a semi-cohesive album. 6/10
-
The Rock Riff
The more I listen to the album the more I like it and the more I accept the new direction Linkin Park has taken these past few years.
-
indulge-sound.com
Production-wise, this album is tight; it sounds huge and it sounds crisp, but it just feels that Linkin Park could have produced something far more exciting musically – they’re certainly capable of it.
-
Vagrant Rant
it lacks the cohesion of Suns, the adventure of Midnight or the energy of the band’s first two releases. However, it does indicate that for the first time in a long while, LP have settled on a sound they are comfortable with.
-
Genius at Everything
a great recording and a big step for the music
-
Mibba
old fans could be pleased, and new fans will certainly be interested
-
Dundee Drum Academy
a good album and certainly a cut above the rest of the music in the charts at the moment
-

Antiquiet
it’s just the next step in the evolutionary process
-
Imagica's Horror Show
Living Things is the first time I’ve smiled during a Linkin Park album in almost 10 years.
-
Flush the Fashion
Tracks like ‘Castle of Glass’ and ‘Powerless’ are fine examples of what the band can achieve when they put their minds to it
-
Idaho Press
pretty top-notch from its opening track
-
Baligitha
Amazing album!
-
Metal Reviews by Star Sheep
this isn’t the comeback most of us have been wanting fromLinkin Park
-
The National
Linkin Park may have turned down the distortion on their amplifiers, but that hasn't made them more worth listening to.
-
Pop Matters
All in all, Linkin Park has always been a bit unique and the best at what they do, and they continue to excel on this album. Just don’t expect too much from it.
-
Off the Tracks
This is my favourite Linkin Park album. Easily.
-
Planet Mosh
It’s the sound of one of the most influential rap rock bands returning to their roots, but yet sounding bigger and more modern than ever.
-
Rebel Rebel Music
The overarching problem with this album is how restricted and neutered it is.
