The songs work in the studio but live they are something else building on the energy, that Beth performance adds to every phrase and note. The performance feels live deserving the respect you pay when sitting or standing in an auditorium.

The band behind Hart is magnificent, Jon Nichols on guitar, Bob Marinelli on bass, and Bill Ransom on drums. They fill her music with life and energy.

Her voice is a mixture of emotional fearfulness and full-on husky gravitas. And when she lacks self-assurance she’s at her enrapturing best. And when she asks herself deeply personal questions and hesitates before supplying the audience with an answer, the childlike daintiness and the perils of her misunderstanding are at their most conspicuous.

Beth Hart and the band become unconcealed, the shimmer of the veil seen from the grandest stages is unfurled and what remains is the sense of beauty that only looking into the eyes of the artist can bring.

I love this release, but when you’ve got a singer with a voice as powerful as Beth Hart’s then it just feels wrong for that power not to be fully utilised.
