Chasing hits and fighting against his own strengths prevent Trippie Redd’s debut album from having a seismic impact.

. . . I was pleasantly surprised with how it actually turned out. The production is a lot more refined than it’s been in the past & when it comes to the execution & delivery, I truly feel like Trippie is at his most passionate on here.

. . . overall the album is an exquisite showcase of his artistry. From the candid elegies for his deceased brother, to his emphatic rapport with Young Thug on “Forever Ever”, Trippie has produced a wild ride to savour, and left us all waiting in fervent anticipation for the next trip.

Overall, I feel like this album fluctuates a lot throughout it’s run-time and I’d completely understand if someone said the payoff wasn’t worth it. I have a hard time disagreeing when I’m only gonna replay two tracks out of 14.

To me, there weren’t really any aspects of this album that were consistently good. . . . Overall, this is a pretty wack album to me. I’m not feelin’ it.

I think “Life Is A Trip” was a success. It was refreshingly experimental, and I thought it had some legit bangers.

. . . Life’s A Trip is original, emotional and genre bending. With Trippie preferring to sing his pain in melody rather than rapid fire raps.

Trippie Redd tries to be a rockstar in Life's A Trip, but doesn't realize his jarring voice and affinity for drugs doesn't quite serve him the title. Trippie Redd tries to be a rockstar in Life's A Trip but instead comes off as a wannabe . . . .

This album deserves the attention of hip hop fans everywhere. It may not be for everyone, but it is absolutely a quality album that I think will age well. Trippie Redd delivered a solid debut album that was exactly what I was looking for, save a few minor things.

  • Ben's Beat

Steadily becoming one of the leaders rising to the top of the new class of alternative rock and pop punk-influenced emo rap artists, Trippie Redd’s debut studio album is a melancholy, raw project framed by Redd’s unique, strained and distressed vocal delivery.

As his debut, Life’s A Trip provides the opportunity for him to truly distinguish him and define himself as an artist, justifying the buzz and potentially ingratiating himself with a broader fanbase that may be less familiar with his mixtape work.

All in all we were quite surprised by Life’s A Trip. It’s not something we’d normally seek out but still found it quite enjoyable. We look forward to seeing where Trippie Redd can evolve to over the next few years as he matures and further develops his sound.

Trippie Redd just dropped his debut album “Life’s a Trip” and it is a complete vibe! From the time that you start Together and end with Underwater FlyZone the album stays sonically in-tune whether it is a more melodic song with Trippie singing or a hardcore banger like Dark Knight Dummo.

The Ohio rapper is openly reflective of the hurdles his generation faces—the allure of drug use, the pain of young love, the yearning for social currency—but the album is ultimately an affirmation of his perseverance, and shows his musical whims stretch beyond rap.

. . . I think he’s got a distinct and rather interesting style, and there are several moments on the album where he embraces what makes him special and creates something really good. I do think there are some very real flaws with the album: he’s still a bit all-over-the-place lyrically, his vocals can be inconsistent . . . and, for that matter, the album as a whole is rather inconsistent.

  • The Fox and King

As one of the most polarizing and versatile young artists to ascend from the cloud/trap genre, Trippie Redd’s debut album excels in both sound, storytelling and lyricism. The record strips away at the Ohio emcees most emotional undertones, which reconciles his strength, empathy and self-preservation.

So whatever we call Life's A Trip, it's well worth your time. What Redd has managed to achieve in an incredibly short time (he turned 19 this year) is to take his place in the evolution of the form, challenging what we once thought music was all about.

“Life’s A Trip” is one of the worst debut albums I’ve ever heard, and it might be the worst project of this year so far. The album felt like a chore to get through and it was hard to deal with. I just gave the album one and a half vinyls.

  • Living Life Fearless

Like most of these newer artists out these days he tries to take a more genre-less approach to his music, taking a little something from numerous genres – particularly the more emo phase of rock. Those moments are some of my least favorite moments on the project though as he comes off as more whiny than anything, but there is some genuinely compelling stuff here that shows there’s more to him than meets the eye.

"Life's A Trip" is above all lazy, delivers exactly what the fan base expects and does not even try to change the formula to attract new listeners. Everything is fair and understandable, but I'm out first.
