Show All-
pitchfork
The buzzing rapper’s debut mixtape is an easygoing 40 minutes of sugary trap and mellow, blissfully hazy vibe-music that runs with the sounds of the moment without advancing them much.

Lil Skies’ “Life Of A Dark Rose” Debut Shows Potential, But Eh
-
Medium/Backpack Boy beats
With technology where it is, anything is possible and with how Skies and the production kill this one, it proves to be very true.
-
Hot New Hip Hop
Skies flexes every aspect of his artistry from the bars to his penchant for melodies.
-
Beat
It’s not groundbreaking - Skies definitely needs room to grow. Yet if this project’s gems are any indication, his trajectory should be up.

Overall, though, I don't recommend this album. If you want to listen to this kind of style, you'd be better off listening to Tdot Ill dude's newest project. It's much better.

Vidette Online
He does not say too much, his lyrics are lackluster in retrospect, but he at least sounds good saying nothing.
-
The Media Banana
This album is heavily focus-grouped, full of obvious influences, and doesn’t really take any risks.

Verrastro Album Review
So yeah, it was a solid mixtape. I won’t say it is anything crazy or something entirely new, but I enjoyed it a decent amount.
-
Drop of Culture
All in all, I think all hip-hop fans will enjoy this debut album. Definitely give this one a listen if you haven’t already. I look forward to more from him.

Muzik Jungle
I definitely surprised myself because I am not that big a fan of many of the new artists that have been out. I may like 1 or two, mainly the radio-friendly ones, but that’s it. For Lil Skies, I actually like the entire album.

Ratings Game Music
In all honesty, Lil Skies kills s–t on this album, rapping with this style that is both confident and masterly.

BC Heights
Overall, Skies has loads of potential, although the direction he goes in from this musical pivot point is unclear. As was the case with the majority of this album, when Skies is not executing his full potential, his bars become tacky, his choruses forced, and his songs unmemorable.
