  • VARIETY

What the songs may tend to lack in depth, they make up in breadth, with each track occupying a slightly different subgenre than the last, united only in the breezy consistency of their craft.

  • Taste of Country

Life Changes album finds the singer paying homage to his own catalog and his many influences. So many of the 14 songs recall someone specific, be it his wife, his father or some other famous singer from generations past.

  • Crank It Country

Life Changes is unlike anything we have heard from Thomas Rhett before, and he certainly had an all-encompassing approach in mind while writing and producing it. Needless to say, it is definitely worth a listen. Check it out and remember to CRANK IT UP!

The album itself does showcase Thomas Rhett’s love for his wife making the rest of us fall in love with both the album and their relationship, but it also breaks out of the box of a classic country album by including a few Pop and R&B inspired songs.

But in the case of Thomas Rhett, it’s his raging averageness that makes him exceptional, and apparently, appealing.

But even that title track is expertly assembled, sailing along on a lilting groove and drum loop, evidence that Rhett is as savvy a musician as he is a pop star.

  • Nashville Country Club

Although Rhett’s life is changed, his music is not. “Life Changes” maintains Rhett’s already-established county-pop sound. If anything, he even pushes the genre-based boundaries so much that they become blurred, but he effortlessly pulls it off.

Thomas’s ability to draw on those real life moments have both proven him as a singer/songwriter but also given us a glimpse of his - very busy! - life behind the curtain. Life Changes is certainly an example of this.

  • Your Life In A Song

Let’s get one thing out there right away. This is NOT a Country album, but neither is it a pop album. It is a rare beast of a product, almost unpigeon-holeable (if such a term actually exists!), undefinable, apart from it being an album from Thomas Rhett that has many styles and influences within it.

He’s willing to expand upon the tried-and-true, incorporating numerous styles, including pop, electronic, and R&B. It doesn’t always work seamlessly, but more often than not, Life Changes is captivating.

  • Eat Play Rock

I will say that for fans of traditional country and only traditional country: this isn’t the album for you. There are a lot of songs on here that I feel could be played in clubs or on Top 40 stations. You won’t like these songs. It’s not because these songs aren’t good – quite the opposite actually. It’s because you only like one style of music and this is not that.

Rhett truly lays it all out there as though he’s inviting his fans to read him like an open book. And although he continues to reach a young, millennial audience, he strategically targets a broader audience by including pop influences.

It's been almost two years since Rhett's sophomore album, Tangled Up, shot to No. 2 on the charts and brought Rhett high praise for his songwriting and musical affinity. More recent singles such as "T-Shirt" and "Star of the Show" have helped fans stay patient, but new singles from an already-out-there album aren't quite the same and completely brand-new tunes.
