Let the Trap Say Amen

American Christian hip-hop artist Lecrae along with Atlanta producer Zaytoven released their collaborative studio album—Let the Trap Say Amen—on June 22, 2018, via Reach Records. Waka Flocka Flame and Verse Simmonds are two of the more notable guests featured in the album.

Let the Trap Say Amen follows Lecrae’s childhood experiences of living in the hood and how he felt the power of Christ after many years at a Christian conference. Lecrae had been Zay’s fan for many years before they collaborated, discovering easy chemistry between themselves. Read critic reviews of Lecrae and Zaytoven’s album here!

The project features more of Lecrae Moore’s commendable conviction over colorful, albeit repetitive, Zaytoven production.

From lyrics about the dangers of material success to finding holiness in the midst of poverty, Let the Trap Say Amen does just that—it allows the disenfranchised, the underserved, the voiceless, to shout praise to the King.

  • THE HAYSTACK

As far as I’m concerned, Lecrae’s strongest material this decade has just happened to be on his mixtapes. What he manages to achieve with relevance on Let The Trap Say Amen also means he undersells the lyricism displayed on those other releases. For someone else, this record might be a hit. For me, it’s passable for casual listening, and doesn’t shake any of my faith in Lecrae’s skills or credibility as an artist.

  • JAM THE HYPE

There is no doubt that Lecrae has grown in talent & skill as well as in content and the focus of his influence. Let The Trap Say Amen is no exception as he adjusts to the lyrical style and form to a trap sound with what some would call a mumble rap flow, though a bit more polished than most.

This album is straight up disappointing, and sometimes made me angry because I know Lecrae's potential. Besides the couple of good tracks I mentioned, you should probably skip out on this album unless you're an avid Lecrae fan.
