Led Zeppelin III
| Led ZeppelinLed Zeppelin III
Led Zeppelin III is the eponymous third studio album by the English rock band Led Zeppelin, released in October 1970. It showed a progression from straightforward rock towards folk and acoustic music. The acoustic material developed from a songwriting session between band members Jimmy Page and Robert Plant at Bron-Yr-Aur cottage in Wales, which influenced the musical direction. The songs were recorded using the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio, Headley Grange, Island Studios, and Olympic Studios in London. While hard rock influences were still present, such as "Immigrant Song", acoustic-based songs such as "Gallows Pole" and "That's the Way" showed Led Zeppelin were capable of playing different styles successfully. -WIKIPEDIA

1970 - Their third album deviates little from the track laid by the first two, even though they go acoustic on several numbers. Most of the acoustic stuff sounds like standard Zep graded down decibel-wise, and the heavy blitzes could’ve been outtakes from Zeppelin II.

Wilson & Alroy's Record Reviews
Zep made a serious effort to lead instead of follow. The production is loaded with amusing gimmicks like phasing, primitive synthesizers, creepy string arrangements, distorted vocals, and acoustic instrumentation, and it never gets dull.

'Led Zeppelin III' mixes folkier material with the usual Led Zep headbanging rock stuff with blues influenced stuff, etc, etc.

A subtle album that requires being in the mood or allowing the music to create the mood-something many impatient adolescents and twenty somethings were not able to appreciate at the time.

Holy crying tomato do I love this band. The third album is yet another departure, with warm, loosey-goosey, raw and welcoming production and the music split down the middle between Side One (Electric Rock) and Side Two (Acoustic Folk-Rock)

2014 - (Reissue) Critical reception of Led Zeppelin III has improved markedly since its original struggles, and this reissue seems well-deserved. The remastered songs sound crisp and fresh.

An underrated work by any reckoning.

ALL MUSIC
Led Zeppelin III provided the band with the necessary room to grow musically. While there are still a handful of metallic rockers, III is built on a folky, acoustic foundation that gives the music extra depth.

Classic Rock Review
2015 - While Led Zeppelin III is considered their “acoustic” album, it is kind of ironic that it begins with one of Led Zeppelin’s heaviest and most strident numbers.

2006 - Whether you're looking for epic blues, delicate acoustic songs, and even blue-grass anthems, the album will not fail to please you.

2017 - Led Zeppelin pushed boundaries in Led Zeppelin III, expanding their sphere of influence even further. The began a revolution, set a standard for it, then started toying with it. As you hear each consecutive record, it becomes clear why this band is so legendary.

Classic Rock History
2016 - if there was ever a time Led Zeppelin were at their most understated and well polished, then their third, self-titled album would be a living reminder of just that.

This album is great! However, there is one particular song that ruins it. We all know what that is. I definitely recommend this record, as pretty much all the other songs make up for the bad ending.
