La Diva
| Aretha FranklinLa Diva
American singer Aretha Franklin released her twenty-fifth studio album—La Diva—on September 6, 1979, through Atlantic Records. This album was her last one in a long 12-year run with Atlantic, including 19 original albums. La Diva served as a commercial flop, with Franklin attempting to make a disco-oriented comeback with the help of producer Van McCoy. This album stood at the lowest charting as Franklin’s poorest selling work out of the entire catalog of Atlantic Records songs.
Franklin recorded La Diva at her vocal peak, with the album featuring three compositions that she created herself. Read reviews about Aretha Franklin’s La Diva here!

Thumbs down without question, and chalk that album up as one of the top 10 reasons why disco had to die — it all but destroyed Franklin's artistic reputation without even compensating her on the material level

Blame what's wrong with this record on the late trite Van McCoy, one of the most tasteless arrangers ever to produce an LP.

Franklin was having a hard time in this period, and this is perhaps the most embarrassing outing of them all.
