Rolling Stone
(1978) Kaya is a succession of the most tepid reggae clichés, pristinely performed and recorded, every last bit of tourist bait (down to the wood blocks) in place just like a Martin Denny record.

Something Else Reviews
Kaya is a record that finds Bob Marley learning how to pull away after he had been pressing on for so long. The album not only celebrates his love of life, ganja and women, it also offers glimpses of his vulnerability, apprehension, and faith.
-
All Music
Kaya was a minor effort for Bob Marley as a prophet or a commentator, but it's a rich and rewarding set from Marley the musician.

Sputnik Music
Kaya will leave you relaxed upon it's completion and it may even be hard to turn the album off, it is simply that easy to listen too.

Bob Marley & The Wailers
Though the catchy mid-tempo dance riddims on display here are even more similar sounding than usual, an impressive overall groove carries the record (turning a negative into a positive), which is boosted by some of Marley’s best lyrics.

Ultimate Classic Rock
'Kaya' toned down the tougher sounds and songs and replaced them with more laid-back cuts about smoking weed, making love and smoking weed. The album sticks to its theme, which works in its favor. The great "Is It Love" is here too.

Only Solitaire
There is, truly and verily, more to this little forget-me-not of an album than lies obvious on the surface. I'm just not too keen on finding out what it is exactly. Good, but flawed.
