Hot New Hiphop
Kamikaze brought forth a spontaneity unfamiliar to an Eminem fan, from its unexpected release to its reinvigorated aura of confidence. Is it Eminem’s best album? In truth, it doesn’t matter, nor should he be doomed to forever do battle against himself. All I know is this: where the legacy of Slim Shady is concerned, it remains wise to stand on the right side of history.
-
Forbes
Eminem struggles to reconcile with that shift on Kamikaze, though he inevitably succeeds more often than on the catastrophic Revival. Scholars may not point to Kamikaze as the moment Eminem wrenched back his career from the hands of bloodthirsty journalists—but they also won’t pinpoint it as the moment he lost the fight entirely.
-
DJBooth
Immaturity has been a part of Eminem’s brand for as long as I can remember. Kamikaze further proves that Eminem is hip-hop’s Peter Pan and it’s past time to grow up. The fairy dust is no longer helping him fly and the crash is painful to watch.
-
ATL Vibes
In the beginning, Eminem seems to succeed in this goal by showing that he has not lost any of his lyrical genius. After the beginning, of the album Eminem seems to lose the same quality. Personally, I think Jessie Reyez was a mistake as a feature in Nice Guy and Good Guy. If Eminem only made this album a six to nine song album
-
Hip Hop N More
Eminem is immortalized. He could release duds for the remainder of his career and still be looked at as one of the best rappers to ever pick up a mic. With Kamikaze, he finds his bearings and starts to steer the ship back in the right direction. The hunger is there and he hasn’t lost a step rapping, but he can’t quite seem to figure out who he wants to be.
-
UpRoxx
For all of Kamikaze‘s lyrical wizardry, nothing he says feels meaningful or relative to the experiences of the rest of the world outside of Eminem’s internet rap forum bubble. He seemingly cares more about how people feel about his bars than how his music makes people feel.
-
Rap Reviews
“Kamikaze” is not a party album. It’s often times a moody album, but like it or not that’s also when Marshall Mathers can be at his most honest and lyrically sharpest. It’s always fun to hear him throw daggers at pop culture figures, but he never cuts quite as deeply as when he aims at his own shortcomings. It’s undoubtedly painful to him and perhaps even painful to listen to, but he renews himself and his career through cathartic releases such as this.
-
Ear Buddy
Kamikaze is one of Eminem’s best albums this decade. It’s short, for one thing, so he doesn’t get much opportunity to overstay his welcome, and the beats and guest artists drag Eminem kicking and screaming to his most sonically coherent album since Recovery

Sputnik Music
Peculiar purpose prevents perfection, but never has an identity crisis sounded quite so compelling.
-
The Review Geek
While Kamikaze is certainly a better offering from Eminem compared to his past 3 or 4 albums, this is still a far-cry from the incredible early work of this groundbreaking artist. Cheap productions and a contrived effort to rekindle his previous flow and charisma fails to feel like anything but a middle-aged Eminem angry at the world and a music scene that’s moved on from his era.
-
The Rap Fest
While Kamikaze may not be Marshall’s best work to date, it is a testament to a newfound hunger towards making music; his true revival.
-
Atwood Magazine
In the end, despite its imperfections, Kamikaze marks a successful experiment as Eminem’s first surprise release, as well as considerable maturation for the veteran rapper.
-
Music Connection
Eminem continues to prove he’s a lyrical elite and those challenging him cannot lyrically compete. Kamikaze is one of Em’s best albums in recent years. Rebellious by nature, Em shows how much of an outsider he re- ally is in today’s trending hip-hop climate.
-
O'Colly
This album disses Eminem’s critics and offers a beat fans can bob their heads to while he reclaims his fan base. Eminem can celebrate because this album combines a good mix of Slim Shady and his newer style of rap.
-
Immortal Reviews
Eminem hits back at his naysayers in Kamikaze, destroying every critic of his music with the same vicious deliveries they claimed he lacked on his last record. This is Eminem in prime shape, and while Revival was great in its own right, Kamikaze shows where Eminem really shines.
-
Bens Beats
Eminem proved his point with Kamikaze. No matter how many people try to discredit him, he shows here that his legacy as one of the greatest rappers of all time is still intact, and for good reason. Still – as his career winds down, it’s getting to the point where he should be a lot more careful about what he puts out there.
