JUSTIFIED.
| Justin TimberlakeJUSTIFIED.
Justified is the debut solo album by American recording artist Justin Timberlake, released on November 5, 2002 by Jive Records. It was written and recorded in a six-week period, during the hiatus of Timberlake's band NSYNC. For the album, Timberlake began to adopt a more mature image as an R&B artist opposed to the previous pop music recorded by the group. The majority of the album was produced by The Neptunes (credited as "Williams and Hugo") and Timbaland, and features guest appearances by Janet Jackson, Clipse, and Bubba Sparxxx. Primarily an R&B album, Justified also contains influences of dance-pop, funk, and soul music. -wikipedia
Critic Reviews
Show All-
Billboard
a brazen delight that makes more room for groove than any specific image or persona
-
Rolling Stone
The album’s lyrics, similarly, invoke scenes of the tenderest understanding here, of full-on booty calls there.
-
Slant Magazine
the results are, ahem, golden
-
NME
Timberlake, having failed to imprint his personality on ‘Justified’, simply stands or falls on the strength of the songs. Luckily for him, half a dozen of them – mainly Timbaland’s – are brilliant.
-
BBC
Justified introduces us to a singer/songwriter who is mature beyond his 21 years; ... Mr Timberlake, eagerly we await more...
-
Entertainment Weekly
''Justified'' is the ultramodern R&B-pop hybrid Jackson's ''Invincible'' failed to be
-
Drowned in Sound
Nevertheless, his faults - which may only exist in my ears - don’t stop ‘Justified’ from being what it is: great pop.
-
Mind Equals Blown
this album will force its way under your skin and infect you with its catchiness, spunk, and eclectic genre twisting. Justified is energetic and soulful, even if it doesn’t contain much of a soul itself.
-
The Guardian
But Justified offers little evidence of genius in the making
-
Snippets
All in all, Justified is a decent album.
-
Pop Dirt
Overall, “Justified” is not THAT bad for a first attempt.
-
Uncut
Timberlake goes solo, asks us to accept his adulthood but remains a blank space for producers Timbaland and the Neptunes to inscribe their innovative visions.
-
All Music
Justin Timberlake misses his mark slightly
-
Hour Community
Timberlake looks like he may successfully make the transition from bubblegum to AOR. All he needs now are some stronger songs.
-
People
A surprisingly soulful success
-
R&Being
for the most part, Timberlake has come up with a satisfying surprise. In many ways, “Justified” succeeds because the Memphis native piggybacks on the accomplishments of recent R&B genre-stretchers (Kelis) and neo-traditionalists (Bilal, Glenn Lewis).

vibeRANT
It’s an album that didn’t really change the game, but it bolstered it.
-
Entertain Your Brain!
Unfortunately, after a promising first half, the album gets a little boring.
-
Pop Rescue
when it’s good it’s brilliant, and when it’s weak, it’s full-on paint-by-numbers fromage. That said, this album is a welcome addition to my music collection.
