The emotion is still there, it's just held on a tighter leash.

Unlike his '90s records, it's consistent, both in its quality of songs and its cohesive sound, and even if it's not a full-fledged comeback, it's a solid latter-day record that lives up to his legacy.

. . . this is one of the more appealing records Richie had made in quite some time, as it's both assured and unassuming, relaxed and tuneful. Unlike his '90s records, it's consistent, both in its quality of songs and its cohesive sound, and even if it's not a full-fledged comeback, it's a solid latter-day record that lives up to his legacy.

I have no doubt that this LP will sell to fans. They will attend his concerts in their droves and will sing-along-a-Richie to all the old favourites, many of which are superbly crafted songs. However, this album in comparison feels chronically underdeveloped and bland, which is hugely disappointing.

Soulshine
This album won't sway many cynics of his easy-listening style. But believers will fall on their knees. He has never sounded better and is at the top of his game. His maturity shows, proving that older can be better.

The Digital Fix
. . . with this album he's produced something better than many of the soul stars who followed him.

JUST FOR YOU is the third album by this reborn Lionel Richie, and it finds him getting comfortable in his new mode, which is refreshingly close to the pop classics he penned years before.
-
The Guardian
Although it has been years since Lionel Richie last said, well, Hello, he has returned unchanged and thus disturbingly in tune with the times.
-
The Digital Fix
With Richie's voice is as smooth as it's ever been and showing some form at keeping his sound up to date, Just For You - both this and the accompanying album - is a better song that anything his one-time contemporaries have recorded in decades.

Rolling Stone
Insipid ballads dominate the record's first half, but a pair of collaborations with Murder Inc.'s 7 Aurelius, "Road to Heaven" and "Time of Our Life," and a duet with Brit singer Daniel Bedingfield tease out Richie's relevant notes.

Wilson & Alroy's Reviews
It's hard to play the part of versatile pop chameleon without losing your individuality, and four albums into his comeback Lionel Richie doesn't sound like Lionel Richie anymore.

RTE
Ultimately, 'Just For You' is a disappointing offering, coming nowhere near the quality of work this musical giant has produced previously.
