Jane's Addiction
Jane’s Addiction, also known as Triple-X or XXX by fans, is the debut album from Jane’s Addiction. It was released by Triple-X Records on cassette and vinyl on May 15, 1987 and CD on September 20, 1988. This album live album was taken from a show Jane’s had at The Roxy in West Hollywood, CA on January 26, 1987, where the band performed both electric and acoustic sets.

Evans Rock Album
Thus starting with a live album proved to be a sagacious strategy, winning a multitude of fans long before their proper studio debut. And from a qualitative perspective the decision to make their eponymous outing a live release scarcely made a difference; the band had decent enough instrumental chops, and their live material sounds much the same as their studio fare. If anything the live environment enhances the group's sound, as the band benefits from the added energy inherent to concert performances.

Variety
With his groundbreaking band Jane’s Addiction and the 1991 launch of the annual Lollapalooza Festival, front man and impresario Perry Farrell helped create, curate and define alternative music in the ’90s. Nearly 30 years later, Farrell remains on the cutting edge, both sonically and conceptually as his new solo album “Kind Heaven” attests.

La Times
But Farrell only sings one way, or apparently writes one kind of song, and he does it again here--which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Independent
Farrell's concerns remain much the same: enthusiasm for good times and strong women; admonition of environmental despoilers; a general iconoclastic bloody-mindedness which this time doesn't lead the band quite close enough to the edge.

Long Reads
The album was recorded at a club called The Roxy, on the Sunset Strip. As a concert recording, some fans called it “the live album.” We called it “Triple X,” after the indie label that released it. Unlike other live records where applause fades in before the music starts, Triple X launched right in with no introduction: fast drums, soloing guitar, and a high-pitched banshee singer howling cryptic lyrics that went way over my 14-year-old head: “Oh, mama lick on me / I’m as tasty as a red plum / Baby thumb / Wanna make you love.” The song was called “Trip Away.” I had no idea what tripping was, but the music slayed me.

Jane's Addiction is the eponymous live album by Jane's Addiction, released on May 15, 1987. Its basic tracks were recorded live at the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles on January 26, 1987, with additional overdubs and corrections recorded at The Edge Studio in Los Angeles. An audience applause dub from a Los Lobos concert was overlaid onto the final mix.

You Tube Music Sucks
Jane’s Addiction is an American rock band created in the mid-1980s in Los Angeles, consisting of Perry Farrell (vocals), Dave Navarro (guitar), Stephen Perkins (drums), and Eric Avery (bass). They significantly influenced alternative music in many ways great and small, and the band is widely regarded in alternative circles as a pioneer of grunge and alternative metal. Their most popular songs include radio staples “Jane Says”, “Been Caught Stealing”, “Mountain Song” and “Just Because”, but they are generally not considered a pop band.

The Sonic Collective
In general we all saw some great positives but then there were varying opinions about the rest of their album.
-
The Crimson
There are two kinds of greatest hits albums. The first sort come from acts that have been so big for so long that selecting tracks is more a choice of which hits to leave out than which to include. Rev is from the other end of the spectrum; Perry Farrell's two former bands Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyros had only a handful of hits between them despite heavy cult followings.

Musician Guide
Perhaps best known by the public at large for their outrageousness--lewd stage antics, songs challenging conventional morality, outspoken views on drugs, censored album covers--Jane's Addiction is also acclaimed for making accomplished, progressive rock music.
