INFIDELS
| Bob DylanINFIDELS
Infidels is the 22nd studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on October 27, 1983 by Columbia Records. Produced by Mark Knopfler and Dylan himself, Infidels is seen as his return to secular music, following a conversion to Christianity, three evangelical, gospel records and a subsequent return to a less religious lifestyle. Though he has never entirely abandoned religious imagery, Infidels gained much attention for its focus on more personal themes of love and loss, in addition to commentary on the environment and geopolitics. Christopher Connelly of Rolling Stone called those gospel albums just prior to Infidels "lifeless", and saw Infidels as making Bob Dylan's career viable again. According to Connelly and others, Infidels is Dylan's best poetic and melodic work since Blood on the Tracks. - WIKIPEDIA

RollingStone
1983 - After years of crabbed or indifferent albums, Dylan is back in the rag-and-bone shop of the heart, making music of intensity and emotional directness.

Infidels is a triumph, finding Dylan coming tantalizingly close to regaining all his powers.

2013 - An album heralded as a return from Bob Dylan's born-again proselytizing, the Mark Knopfler-produced Infidels began Bob Dylan's journey back toward mainstream music making — and it may have been even better except for some last-minute tinkering.

2015 - Far from his best, but a solid if inconsistent effort.

2011- Though Infidels didn't return exactly resurrect Dylan's career, the album would be his strongest of the decade and when his label produced a music video for “Sweetheart Like You”, it ushered Dylan into the MTV era.

This might not be one of Dylan's peak albums, but it's not bad. The only reason to ignore this is if still haven't listened to or connected with his classic albums. Otherwise, don't be afraid to give 'er a whirl.

I love music, and I'd hate to recommend a weak album and ruin your afternoon, so I'm giving this one a 5 on the grounds that, although Bob displays a nice level of energy and enthusiasm, he also demonstrates his same old '80s lack of original song ideas.

Only Solitaire
A lyrically strong product, but the melodies are essentially an old piece of chewing gum extracted out of a sticky pocket.

What we do have hear is a mixture of the sublime and the merely ordinary.
