Rolling Stone
I Can’t Stop may not rival Green’s classics, but it can stand proudly alongside them.

A.V. Club Music
He's still got the fire inside, but it's turned from red to blue.
-
All Music
Green has brought it all back home with style, class, and -- most of all -- total commitment. For that Willie Mitchell deserves a world of credit. He and Green make a perfect team; listeners can only hope they stay together.

The Guardian
As I Can't Stop plays, it's difficult to imagine how anyone could improve on it.
-
Pop Matters
A) Al Green is still the finest soul music singer in the world, and B) Willie Mitchell is still the finest soul music producer in the world.

Paste Magazine
I’m really glad Al can’t stop. But it won’t make me forget when he started, either.

Material has never been a big deal for a singer whose arrangements always play second fiddle to his inventions, and that singer has retained plenty of voice and the guile to know what to do with it. Give these performances time and they cohere, not as classy modernizations or returns to a form he never lost, but as artistic statements from someone with no history of taking his talent for granted.

The Independent
More serious, though, is the lack of compulsion in these performances, a shortfall in emotional conviction exemplified by the reduction of Green's gift to a series of gimmicky squeals.
