Here I am
| Kelly RowlandHere I am
Here I Am is the third studio album by American recording artist Kelly Rowland, released through Universal Motown and Universal Music Group on July 22, 2011. The album is Rowland's first release since parting ways with her long-time manager Mathew Knowles and Sony Music Entertainment record label Columbia Records and Knowles' Music World Entertainment. Here I Am is predominately a pop, R&B and dance album. It follows Rowland's assertion that "no one puts her in a box" with common themes around womanhood, sexual intimacy and love. Originally scheduled for release in 2010, the album was pushed back after the first round of singles were released to mixed reception, both with critics and commercially. -Wikipedia

An album of two halves – even if its better one is something of a grab-bag of club cuts.

Here I Am does it’s job in that the next time some guy calls you ugly, you can remember “I’m Dat Chick” and tell him “they tell me I’m so fly, I’m so fly, I’m so fly. But I don’t need a mirror, I can see, see, see, see” because even though this album is a bummer, Kelly will still break your fist, she’s dat chick.

Here I Am is the epitome of cheap and cheerful R&B, 40 minutes of precision-tuned pre-club glossiness – without a doubt perfectly serviceable. The only trouble of course is that these days, simply being serviceable just isn’t good enough.

it’s sassy, smooth, and secured of its sexiness. In it we find Kelly fully comfortable with her womanhood and sexuality, cooing over suggestive lyrics and minimalist beats like a seasoned pro.

As such, with ‘Here I Am’, Rowland positions herself as a viable chart force, while also whetting our appetite for (what is hoped will be) a less ‘safe’ product next go round.
