  • DROWNED IN SOUND

Hard Candy' is focussed experimentation, full of catchy hooks and a complete right angle to their previous Americana-tinged efforts, despite taking in all sorts of influences.

this is definetley not the album to get if you want to hear what AAEA, RTS, and TDL are gonna sound like. Because this song has more pop influence than any of those others. If you like pop music you may not like this album, if you dont like pop music you may like it. The way it blends, bluesy music, soulful singing with pop and rock influences is different than anything the crows have done on their previous efforts.

The letdown is that most of the songs just aren't interesting enough: brilliant musicianship granted, but the arrangements don't hook you or distinguish them from other 'older rock' American outfits.

On "Hard Candy," Duritz has penned songs of insomnia, drugs, debauchery, and the difficulties of life, love, and relationships.
