happy people/u saved me

Happy People/U Saved Me is the sixth studio album and the second double album by R&B singer R. Kelly, where he mixed feel-good danceable soul records (Happy People) with gospel anthems (U Saved Me). Released in 2004, it peaked at No. 2 on the pop albums chart and went on to be certified three times Platinum. This is R. Kelly's 2nd double album in 6 years. The album contained the hit single "Happy People" (US No. 19, UK No. 6), and the minor hit "U Saved Me" (US No. 52, UK No. 6). On "Red Carpet (Pause, Flash)," Kelly sampled the song "Step in the Name of Love" on his previous album which was released in 2003.- WIKIPEDIA

Happy People embraces an ecstatic brand of cheerfulness so far removed from the realities of everyday life that it creates a kind of altered state.

This is one collection of songs that really is for diehard fans only. Anyone else should steer clear.

R Kelly's work can lean to the smooth and superficial side, but listen to any of the tunes on Happy People in a club or bar and you'll be convinced it's an old one you used to love. Which is no bad thing in itself.

The first disc finds Kelly honing his already well developed skills at creating effortless dance hooks, but on the second disc Kelly seems to be trapped in staid evangelical idioms and drowning in itchy church choir robes.

A definitive work of sorts since he's at the top of his game as both a craftsman and conman.

    R. Kelly’s double disc Happy People/U Saved Me displays two attitudes whose co-existence sometimes seems unbelievable. The first disc is a laid back R&B journey to Kelly’s idea of a good time, “Fancy cars/movie stars.” The second uses a Gospel tone to deal with ideas of salvation.
