Partly forgettable, partly fancy, fully inconsistent.

What’s present on Hadeon are good death metal songs by a band that helped make the genre what it is today, plenty of opportunities to bang your head.

With "Haedon", PESTILENCE wrote memorable, aggressive songs that are spiced with dashes of avant-garde, forward thinking that is anything but run of the mill. 7.5/10

This combination makes “Hadeon” as crushingly heavy as it is imaginative, as accessible as it is complex, and, above all, brilliant fun to listen to.

The songs aren't unanimously memorable, but I think if they use this as the groundwork to launch this particular style onto an even more insane, intense plain, then I'm looking forward to the flight.

While even Technical Metal should never be too polished, the tracks here sound a bit too disjointed.

Show case both their amazing technical abilities and their desire to also keep it old school. I can’t say it’s a classic like their earlier works but it is still a shining example.

It’s simple and straightforward enough to have instant appeal, yet has enough depth and substance to keep you returning for more. Highly recommended.

Pestilence is the death metal epidemic that refuses to die and with awesome new albums like Hadeon, this resurrection macabre is here to stay.

"Hadeon" is a well produced, powerful, and detailed sounding album, and the sound production suits the material perfectly.

Overall, "Hadeon" is a significant boost to the three previous Reunion works and the best PESTILENCE album since "Spheres". Seriously, who would have thought that possible?

Pestilence’s latest album Hadeon is unquestionably one of the band’s most shining installments, exuding a technically grounded approach while maintaining a heavy focus on song-craft.

A strong position at the beginning of the year, which in my opinion should be included in the summaries of the best albums of 2018. If you have enough death metal filled with blasts, dense parties and compact masterings, this is the album for you.

Tilen Hudrap. Calin Paraschiv‘s guitar is sharp and jagged, and the production – like the record itself – is probably the best since their comeback in 2009.

Aren't quite as groundbreaking as the late 80s/early 90s releases by the band, they still prove that Pestilence are relevant and can produce quality music.

While Pestilence’s place in the death metal canon remains secure, their recent output pales in comparison to their less-technical contemporaries.

Hadeon speaks to a larger truth and has the stripped back 90s vibe that I think so many of us crave in this world of overproduced and ethereal death metal albums getting lost up their own ass. If nothing is else - Pestilence remain real.

But at least now I enjoy the luxury of listening at “Hadeon” again and again. Why don’t you try to do the same? There is certainly a good reason to.

Pestilence aren’t here to take back the throne of death metal, they’re just back. That’s about it. Hardcore fans and jazz-death aficionados need not apply. Still, worth a trip or two.

Yet all in all Pestilence have a lot left in the tank, taking a formula that other bands would have run into the ground and tinkering with it successfully enough that it feels fresh and relevant four albums into this macabre resurrection.

It is not bad what Pestilence shows with "Hadeon", but I do not walk very warm for this album. It all laps through nicely, but no number stands head and shoulders above it.
