On the sultry new EP from anonymous R&B singer H.E.R., mystery lends itself to relatability.

This record is anything but a means to an end: the end result is a soaring triumph, one everyone involved can be mighty proud of.

She even hit us with the compilation “H.E.R.” Rolling her previous 3 EPs into one album and giving us extra songs on top of it, mixes that really allows her voice to be the main focus.

I forgot that I didn't know H.E.R. because I swore I was her. The project was the placebo effect for all things loved then lost.

Predominantly slow and atmospheric, vulnerable yet assured, verging on mood music but with a little more sonic, melodic, and lyrical substance than the average set from H.E.R.'s stylistic peers.

H.E.R. doesn’t give us much, just enough to grab our ears and pique our imaginations. If the goal here was to make us thirst for more, mission accomplished.

Not one song on the album lacks a heavy bass, a slow and sexy beat, or lyrics that bring back the bittersweet nostalgia of a first break-up.

A female MC who can boast not only of versatility, but an unapologetic hard-core flow which packs enough lyrical ammunition to body any rapper (male or female) is a rarity in these parts.

I give H.E.R. Vol. 2 a 10/10 because I like how H.E.R. tells this story about the down sides of being in a relationship like finding help to accept losing someone that you love, gaining trust, and also moving on from things that are hard to let go.
