| Billy JoelGlass Houses
Glass Houses is the seventh studio album by American singer-songwriterBilly Joel, released on March 10, 1980. It features Joel's first song to peak at #1 on Billboard's Pop Singleschart, "It's Still Rock and Roll to Me". The album itself topped the Pop Albums chart for six weeks and was ranked number 4 on Billboard's 1980 year-end album chart. The album is the 41st best selling album of the 1980s, with sales of 7.1 million copies in the US alone. In 1981, Joel won a Grammy Award for "Best Male Rock Vocal Performance" for his work on Glass Houses. According to music critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine, the album featured "a harder-edged sound" compared to Joel's other work, in response to the punk and new wave movements. - Wikipedia

-- but Glass Houses is the closest Joel ever got to a pure rock album.

Rolling Stone
Comparatively a harder-rocking album than either of its predecessors, with a distinctly bitter edge, Glass Houses still displays the hallmarks of Billy Joel the pop craftsman and Phil Ramone the world-class hitmaker.

So the fruit this album bears is just that. Nostalgia and a copy-cat vibe.

Stallion Alert
Glass Houses is the closest Billy ever came to an all-out traditional (read: guitars!) rock 'n' roll record, and I have to admit, he did a good job.

If you ask me, in fact, this is Joel’s most irresistible album to date: potent melodies, crisp instrumentation, clever turns of phrase, and lively, addictive hooks emanate from every track.

W.L. Swarts Reviews The Universe
In fact, Glass Houses is a strong album that only loses its punch in its final tracks, but even those songs are not bad. That makes Glass Houses worth recommending.
