While few points on MGK’s General Admission have the ameliorative effects of either Zevon or Skynyrd, when you realize that MGK’s a survivor and still improving as an artist, it softens the egregious moments on the album and makes you wanting to hear what’s to come after this album.

It brings everything you would expect from a complete MC: a balance of provocative and thoughtful tracks that are fun to listen to. Some of these tracks sound very similar, but are all products of complete honesty and show MGK as a person, artist and lyricist.

the takeaway from General Admission is that Kelly has finally made an album that can be taken seriously. This isn’t a caricature of him; instead it’s an honest, unfiltered portrayal of a long-troubled man and his struggle to make something of himself. If that isn’t hip-hop music worth rooting, for then I don’t know what is

Lyrically, General Admission is said to have MGK weighing in on anything "from bullying to the environment to political warfare," offering personal perspectives above the beat.
