  • Pitchfork

Following a wave of hype, the re-release is a wisely timed holdover for the months before her next album comes out, but the immersive, enchanting collection is more than a quaint indicator of how far Grimes has come in the past year and a half.

Grimes has real heart, and within every track there is a certain glowing warmth, a gleeful sense of real creativity.

A perfect blend of oriental pop, chillwave and post-rock.

Geidi Primes shows both Grimes' naivety and talent.

Boucher may have pulled her punches a little, making an album which is polite and tasteful when it could smack you round the head with its experimentation. Nevertheless, this is still a curious debut from a promising artist with obvious talent. It will be worth keeping an eye on Boucher to see what she does next.

The tunes on Geidi Primes could easily have been sung into a weirding module, for all I know, and if you understand that reference, you may be interested in the art-pop, science fiction, cult movie love on display here.

As a whole, the album is a phenomenal debut, both musically and vocally, from a very creative individual.

I’m just not sure Grimes is relevant anymore and her eccentric offerings fail to make a lasting impact.

If you’re a newcomer to her music then this reissue is probably the wrong place to start, but it’s certainly worth getting around to eventually.

Go give this album a spin. You’ll like what you hear, even if half of the song titles are just … weird.

  • Obscure Sound

While Boucher occasionally gets caught up in the repetitive build-up, her music is more sincere and unconventionally fulfilling than the masses currently attempting lo-fi bedroom electronica. For this reason, it is hard not to forget several remarkable efforts on Geidi Primes.

  • Record Collector Magazine

It’s marred by poor production values and sketchy vocals. Yet the idiosyncrasy which has made Grimes’ music so celebrated is also prevalent, investing the Asiatic Sardaukar Levenbrech and the softly cascading Venus In Fleurs with a dark and mystical charm all her own.

I would describe this album as being eccentric, dreamy, cohesive, enchanting, resourceful, impressive, spooky, blissful, tribal, sweet, soft, dark, creative.
