FUSE

Fuse is the eighth studio album by New Zealand-born Australian country music singer Keith Urban. It was released on 10 September 2013 via Hit Red and Capitol Records Nashville.[The album includes features from Miranda Lambert and Eric Church and has spawned six singles, four of which have topped the newly introduced US Billboard Country Airplaychart, making it his first album to produce four chart-topping singles. Upon its release, the album debuted atop both the US Billboard 200 and the Billboard's Top Country Albums charts, becoming Urban's fourth (non-consecutive) number one album on the latter. It received generally positive reviews from contemporary music critics, who complimented the more diverse musical styles explored on the songs. - WIKIPEDIA

Urban here becomes an impressive twang-pop ambassador.

The words are working hard here, and the music is, too, but Mr. Urban is gliding through, barely quaking at all.

Fuse sounds basically like all of the past few albums but with less guitar fireworks, more drum machines, more “oh oh oh” backing vocals, slightly more generic choruses and verses.

Keith’s methodical risks and ability to punch in the big chorus light a Fuse on this exciting new album.

It's an album that should put him back in the conversation for Entertainer of the Year considerations.

The result is sonically exploratory (if overproduced), but Urban’s breezy, flirty lyrics are so dreadfully derivative that they undo his attempt at diversity.

a great first dabble into country music for the pop fan as it has a lot of variety in sound and musical texture.

filled with plenty of pleasant surprises. The biggest one, though, is how high Urban raised his ambitions and then delivered impressively on them.

So do yourself a favour: Don’t buy it. Don’t even think about buying it. If you want country, go listen to Alan Jackson or Brad Paisley.

The album as a whole is great, and it's nice to see that while he may have tried some new things he didn't stray too far from what he's become known for.

“Fuse” is not the greatest thing Urban has ever made, and the only thing really different from his past material is the unneeded hip-hop qualities.
