Pitchfork
Cordae’s latest album proves he doesn’t have an ethos or a sense of excitement that separates his music from other rappers with a working-class view.

Medium
Cordae’s ability to capture multiple flows with multiple styles is uncanny and exciting even because I believe that he is still flying way under the radar. Songs like “RNP” with Anderson.Paak put him on the map a little bit, but we don’t hear his name mentioned when talking about one of the top rappers of this generation. If From A Bird’s Eye View is any indication, I think it’s time we start doing so.

Stereogum
There’s clearly a stable future in that zone. It’s just not exciting. It’s boring. You can be a good rapper and still be boring.
-
NME
The Maryland rapper, endorsed by everyone from Dr. Dre to Stevie Wonder, goes toe-to-toe with musical legends, more than proving his worth.

Beats Per Minute
From A Birds Eye View ups the stakes in every imaginable way from his rookie outing, The Lost Boy. Still, it lacks a true it-factor, suffering from questionable songs and moments. Luckily, the emcee’s ever-growing ambitions as an artist are put on full display here—even if they haven’t been fully realized quite yet. But this album does leave fans with a promising look into what the former-YBN affiliate can be and potentially do. Cordae’s drive and desire to go down as one of the best rappers to ever do it is evident on his latest album; through the project’s risks, verses, and thematic elements, he has shown that he intends to do whatever it takes to get to that next level – it just needs a bit more focus.

Hot New HipHop
On his sophomore album, Cordae offers his most consistent work to date.

With that being said, Bird’s Eye View isn’t exactly spotless. Though it was likely a personal achievement to have one of his influences in Eminem guest on “Parables,” the rushed verse is ultimately the album’s one glaring low point. His assertion that he’s “going back to Dr. Dre, he’s still giving me refills” feels lazy and tired. It’s a shame, too, because Cordae’s verse at the top of the track is a standout.

Ratings Game Music
Cordae continues to sound like the chosen one in the impressive “From A Birds Eye View.”
-
The Needle Drop
Despite Cordae's now elevated perspective, Birds Eye View offers a bit less food for thought than his debut.
-
AllMusic
The immediacy and hunger that made Cordae's earliest tracks feel so promising is harder to locate on From a Birds Eye View. Still in command of strong technical skills and now rapping over instrumentals crafted with bigger budgets, Cordae falls short when he starts sounding a little too comfortably at home in the mainstream.

Uproxx
From A Bird’s Eye View is exactly the sort of sophomore album you want from an artist like Cordae… in looking back at his experiences, he’s begun to realize the road map to a bright future.

Clash Magazine
While 'From A Bird's Eye View' has some amazing moments of storytelling and technical rapping, unfortunately, it doesn’t quite live up to the incredibly high expectations Cordae has set for himself. It’s still an impressive album, there are some stellar highlights but it doesn’t quite have enough momentum to push it all the way through. It might not be remembered as the moment where Cordae realised his astronomical potential but it’s still a solid addition to his discography and undoubtedly more unforgettable than his debut.

Ben's Beaat
While overall this feels like a step down since Cordae’s debut, the ambition he displays and the many artistic avenues he ventures down over the course of this project show that Cordae likely still has yet to hit his ceiling. Still young, as he continues to grow his profile more and more opportunities should be available to him to lock down on his greatest strengths.
