Folie

Folie à Deux  French for "A Madness Shared by Two") is the fourth studio album by American rock band Fall Out Boy. Produced by Neal Avron, the album was recorded from July to September 2008 at The Pass Studios and The Casita in Hollywood, California. As the follow-up to the band's commercially successful 2007 effort Infinity on High, it was released by Island Records on December 10, 2008, after the original November 4 release was postponed to avoid conflicts with the United States presidential election. Like the band's two previous releases, Folie à Deux was musically composed by lead vocalist and guitarist Patrick Stump, with lyrics penned by bassist Pete Wentz. In regard to the writing process, the band considered Folie à Deux to be their most collaborative record.-Wikipedia

  • RollingStone

Advanced case of ADD, ricocheting between genres and eras, tempos and time signatures, often several times in a given song.

  • Pretty Much Amazing

But the bad easily cancels out the good, making for a very mediocre album.

Folie A Deux is by no means a disaster, it is a disappointment following on from the incredible promise of Infinity On High’s punk pop/funk rock fusion.

Folie is a very good album, though I have to admit that my musical tastes weren’t yet ready to accept and appreciate it when it was first released.

As much as Wentz loves analyzing his own reflection, his current lyrical output is simply not as interesting as his early work.

The whole album is a combination of rock, pop-punk, and emo with a little funk and electronica mixed in.

The lyricism, the wordplay, the references; it all culminates to create an album that will live on in Fall Out Boy’s discography as one of, if not their best album to date.

Folie à Deux sees a new, worldly-wise Fall Out Boy, who now care more about actual songcraft than stuffing their songs full of petulant angst and OTT guitar riffs.

To take a classic pop song and make it sound so painful might be considered a difficult job, but it's pulled off with some aplomb here and only serves to emphasise the lack of quality on this record.
