FLASH GORDON
| QueenFLASH GORDON
Flash Gordon is the ninth studio album and first soundtrack album by the British rock band Queen, released on 8 December 1980 in the United Kingdom by EMI Records and in February 1981 in the United States by Elektra Records. It was one of two film soundtracks that they produced along with Highlander. It is the soundtrack to the science fiction film Flash Gordon, and features lyrics on only two tracks. "Flash's Theme" was the only single to be released from the album under the title "Flash". The album reached #10 on the UK charts and #23 in the US. The album was reissued worldwide on 27 June 2011 (excluding the US and Canada, where it was released on 27 September 2011) as part of the band's 40th anniversary. -Wikipedia
Critic Reviews
Show All-
All Music
it has proven to be one of rock's better motion picture soundtracks over the years

Play It Loud!
2016 - The best way to experience this music would be by just watching the movie. If you’re just listening to the album all by itself, it can be a little boring.

Something Else Reviews
2015 - Flash Gordon mirrors its subject’s story arc, from the title track here to Queen’s heavy-metal howl on “Battle Theme.” Well, and the fact that it sounds like they are having a whole lot more fun.

U Discover Music
2017 - Queen’s album is simply a solidly sustained example of their creative flair. Flash for sure, funny of course, but always on point
-
Mike Ladano
there are some definite musts on the album. Much of it will only appeal to fans of soundtracks. If that sounds like you, take a ride with Flash to planet Mongo and get down with some Queen.
-
The Quietus
2009 - The result was a multi-layered experience, enjoyable as a stand-alone, but enhanced immeasurably by its union with cinema.

God is in the TV
2011 - In terms of Operatic space rock, this is as good as it gets.

Louder Sound
They did a fine job, but without the visuals much of the music’s impact is lost. In fact, it’s almost entirely instrumental, which is what you’d expect for a soundtrack.
-
Don Ignacio
In the end, this is a generally entertaining soundtrack album, but I would say it loses too much when it's stripped from its parent material to be wholly recommendable.

Aphoristic Album Reviews
Flash Gordon does succeed in its aim of creating appropriate backdrops for a hokey movie, but I’d take a mediocre regular Queen album over a well-realised Queen soundtrack any day.
