While the Eli Young Band don't eschew melody on Fingerprints by any means, they do kick up the Red Dirt country that they stomped down last time around. This means that the record is proud of its swagger, something that's evident from the strutting title track and the propulsive "Once," but the group strengthens its slower numbers by emphasizing a delicate touch instead of sticky sentiment.

. . . overall, I think the Eli Young Band went in completely the right direction with this, and it’s probably that benefit of the doubt that makes this a 6 rather than a 5 because honestly, of these eleven tracks, I enjoy five of them and could do without six.

The overall theme of Fingerprints is vulnerability. Every song has a deepness that reaches a place of universal pain, love, and worship.

  • Your Life In A Song

It’s an accomplished, mature, fun and classy piece of work. There are no tractors, tailgates or tan legs anywhere to be found on ‘Fingerprints’. Instead, what you have are two songwriters and a band at the height of their powers.

At times, one might wish Eli Young Band’s artistic ‘fingerprint’ was just a little more distinctive. But when the group hits the right emotional bull’s eye, as it often does with this latest release, it’s awfully difficult to find fault.

Though clearly not as blatantly pop as the downright danceable EP, "Fingerprints" is still glossy, slightly tepid and laden with catchy choruses and pleasing melodies.

With members of the band co-writing eight out of the eleven songs, the personal touch is felt throughout the entire LP. It's a strong offering from the band and fans will love the heartfelt ballads as well as the upbeat and mid tempo jams . . . .
