Familia is the third studio album by Cuban-American singer and songwriter Camila Cabello, released on April 8, 2022, through Epic Records. Cabello wrote the album during the COVID-19 pandemic between 2020 and 2021 with producers such as Mike Sabath, Ricky Reed, Edgar Barrera and Cheche Alara. The album was inspired by the "manifest collective joy" Cabello felt with her family during the pandemic and is about connecting with the singer's Latin American roots. Rolling Stone
The singer’s third album is full of complex heartbreak and boundary-crossing music.
-
Pitchfork
Camila Cabello’s third album embarks on an exploration of her musical heritage while holding onto familiar themes of love and anxiety. She swings big and often hits.
-
The Guardian
The artist’s third album leans heavily into her Mexican-Cuban heritage – and the results hum with artistic intent.
-
PopMatters
What should be her most authentic music yet in Familia is Camila Cabello’s most sonically dull work to date.
-
Clash Magazine
Three albums in, Cabello has managed to show an exciting new side of herself on ‘Familia’. This feels like Cabello has come into her own, hinting at a sound much more intriguing than her previous releases. Though moments fall into realms of safety, churning out easy radio-hits, we’re hoping she continues on this venture into more diverse sounds - as those more exciting, genre-fusing tracks are pretty fabulous.

Nearly each and every song on the album is lyrically terrific, with Cabello using real-life inspiration for many of the songs here. The Latin elements are absolutely euphoric and the flow of the album as a whole is marvelous. When Romance came out, it felt like Cabello lost her footing. But with Familia, Cabello is back on track to overtake the pop scene as we know it.

The Reflector
"Familia” is Cabello’s diary as she shows her love and passion for music and her culture. Cabello has found her musical identity, cementing her status as a superstar, proving she is not going anywhere anytime soon.

AllMusic
It's a vibrantly cross-pollinated sound that again finds her drawing upon her Latin American musical roots.

In both its raucous joy and delicate introspection, Familia finally finds Camila establishing a sound and perspective distinctly hers.

Stereogum
on her raw third album, Familia, which she has called her best album so far. Honestly, I agree with her.

The Indiependent
Familia showcases more of Camila Cabello and, more importantly, marks her out against her peers. With Dua Lipa associated with disco, Phoebe Bridgers occupying the indie-folk space, Billie Eilish focused within the realms of melancholy-pop and Ariana Grande the queen of R&B, Cabello needs to find her unique selling point in a crowded market. The singer has, convincingly, demonstrated that she can uniquely blend the musical influences of her roots into accessible bangers. She has also given us glimpses of the raw personal talent of her blossoming songwriting ability. Like any family, Familia has its ups and downs. But, Familia feels welcoming and fun—signalling the start of something that will grow.
-
NME
The Havana-born, Miami-raised singer wows with songs that explore anxiety, seething sexual jealousy and the loneliness of a long-distance relationship.
-
Medium
Familia represents an artistic step forward for this young pop songstress, and hopefully will serve as a jumping off point for even greater creations.

The Arts Desk
Maybe this isn’t a 100% coherent album in the way that Arianna Grande and Dua Lipa have managed, but it’s definitely one that’s comfortable in its space, and just below the surface bubbles with promise of other musicians going further still with vernacular styles.
