FAIR WARNING

Fair Warning is the fourth studio album by American rock band Van Halen. Released on April 29, 1981, it sold more than two million copies, but was still the band's slowest-selling album of the David Lee Roth era. Despite the album's commercially disappointing sales, Fair Warning was met with mostly positive reviews from critics.-Wikipedia

Pretty impressive show-off stuff--not just Eddie's latest sound effects, but a few good jokes along with the mean ones and a rhythm section that can handle punk speed emotionally and technically.

I find this underappreciated gem to be the tiniest bit more interesting than the others. And why? 'CAUSE IT'S SO FRIGGIN' DARK!!!!

It's their art record and thereby not long on pop bliss, so if that's what you're looking for, skip it; but it doesn't sound like any of their other records, so it gets bonus points.

It was also the point where, according to Edward Van Halen, the band started butting heads. ... The conflict seeps through the grooves of what might be called an angry hard rock album.

2004 - The album in its entirety is guitar oriented, hard rocking and showcases all four members at their peak. Probably the heaviest of any VH album

1981 - Fair Warning makes it explicit that Van Halen have become a triumph of Form over Content; only it’s satire and not cartoon.

2010 - Fair Warning is a perfect mix of darkness and fun though, giving it nice variety ... If you love punchy heavy rock/metal full of killer riffs and bass licks, check this album out.

  • Mike Maggot's Classic Rock Album Review

2009 - “Fair Warning” has a darker side to it that only reared its head on this particular album. It sounds like a band that got to the top and saw a little too much and innocence was lost forever.
