SEVENTEEN’s fourth full-length album expands beyond allegories to traverse genres, becoming a worthy follow-up for 2019's An Ode.

All in all, it falls under the category of derivative within the context of SEVENTEEN’s discography, and generic within Kpop as a whole. It’s fun and enjoyable, but it just feels so anonymous. That’s why its title is so ironic – for an album titled Face The Sun, it sure is faceless.

'Face the Sun' is a testament of Seventeen's influence as a key group within K-pop. The album dipped into heavy territory, experimenting with more rock and EDM elements contributing to a louder sound not often associated with the group. The album leaves an impression of rebellion and disorder, not in its sound but in terms of its message. Seventeen appear to be telling listeners to stray from the norm, find your own path and accept your differences.

Like SEVENTEEN’s entire discography, this album is also amazing but it could be much better. Seeing how this is the new phase of SEVENTEEN, let’s hope to see them dive into this new world of music.

Face the Sun is a progression for Seventeen, an altogether grander, more cohesive record that proves a wonderful addition to their stellar discography.

Unlike SEVENTEEN’s previous full-length albums, every track on Face The Sun employs the talents of the full group. Even their first album, Love & Letter, had unit-specific renditions of their earlier hits. Face The Sun, however, takes a different approach. Perhaps it’s pure coincidence. Or perhaps this body of work is representative of their seventh year—a time punctuated by celebration, big changes and unexpected grief—something they chose to face altogether, as thirteen.
