emancipation
| Princeemancipation
Emancipation is the nineteenth studio album by American recording artist Prince. It was released on November 19, 1996 by NPG Records and EMI Records. The title refers to Prince's freedom from his contract with Warner Bros. Records after 18 years, with which he had a contentious relationship. The album was Prince's third to be released that year (along with Chaos and Disorder and the soundtrack album of the Spike Lee movie Girl 6), which made 1996 one of the most prolific years for material released by Prince. -Wikipedia

Billboard
Emancipation wasn’t Prince’s last great album ... but it was his last extravaganza
-
The Escapist
there is enough good material on here for him to have made either an incredible album, or at least two good, separate records
-
AV Club
there's a lot of impressive, innovative material here, especially on the superior final disc
-
Albumism
here was an artist reborn and devoted to a pure wave of truth from the heart of a songwriter
-
All Music
with its gentle ballads and complex jams, it signals that Prince has evolved into middle-age gracefully. It's a mature effort, to be certain, but in this case that doesn't mean that it's an album bankrupt of ideas -- it means that Prince's craft continues to grow.
-
Spectrum Culture
it retains a great deal of power and cleverness
-
Daily Vault
Emancipation proves this little guy has a lot of life left in his musical career, and only now is he ready to prove it to the world.
-
The Guardian
When EMI signed Prince and he immediately dropped a triple-album, they must have thought he was trolling them. If you sift, you will find jewels.

Wilson & Alroy's Record Reviews
I've lowered the rating half a star because the sheer amount of music here will overwhelm most non-fans. But taken in proper doses, it's terrific

Listen 2 Prince
Emancipation could have been cut into two really solid albums, with some good leftovers for b-sides
