El Dorado

El Dorado (English: The Golden One) is the eleventh studio album by Colombian singer Shakira, released on 26 May 2017, by Sony Music Latin. The album is mainly sung in Spanish, with three songs sung in English. After her self-titled tenth studio album (2014), Shakira had her second child, suffered from writer's block and was uncertain about the future of her career. However, her collaboration on "La Bicicleta" with Carlos Vives and support from her boyfriend, Gerard Piqu , encouraged Shakira to continue to work on music.-Wikipedia

It’s an album sung mostly in Spanish, Shakira’s original language — though she is now fluent in English — and it’s full of love songs carried by tropical rhythms.

El Dorado is Shakira’s proudest invocation of her Amazonian roots.

From beginning to end, Shakira truly succeeded in perfecting every single track, in my professional (personal) opinion.

It's not a clear comeback album, but El Dorado cleverly cashes in on the versatility of Latin music's golden superstar.

  • THE YOUNG FOLKS

Although we may not be 100% clear on the meanings of each song, the compositional techniques emotionally connect the listener and Shakira, from floor stomping, hip shaking hits to moving, heart warming ballads, El Dorado has everything.

The only thing absent from her bag of tricks is a bit of arena rock, but it's not missed because El Dorado feels coherent and mature in its understated -- but not boring -- control of mood.

Ultimately “El Dorado,” which is also highlighted by the lulling romantic escape of “Coconut Tree” and the gorgeous piano-based closer “Toneladas,” is dominated by enjoyable songs that fully engage in the moment yet are easily forgotten once they end.

  • A BIT OF POP MUSIC

Listening to El Dorado as a whole, it is hard not to get the feeling this is a record thrown together at the last minute without a lot of passion or effort.

Average album with lack of concept, more like guest artist compilation.

El Dorado is a superb release from Shakira and her best in a long time, probably since the two-part 2005 album Fijación Oral, Vol 1 and Oral Fixation, Vol 2.

Overall, I think the album is one of Shakira’s best. It certainly hasn’t failed to deliver everything that Shakira is all about.

For all its pleasures, El Dorado is a lacklustre record that fails to captivate for more than a solitary moment or two and is best enjoyed for its simple surface pleasures.

but I have to be honest and say I just didn't find this all that interesting or compelling - the production choices are by-the-numbers when they aren't just poorly considered, the writing was passable but beneath her best, and Shakira just didn't sound all that engaged.

Unlike the mythical city of gold that inspired it, Shakira’s El Dorado is real. And while its creator was uncharacteristically quiet, she spun her gold into platinum.

"El Dorado" perfectly combines reggaeton, pop, electronic, ballads and bachata, while doing one of his most original works.

This album isn’t particularly good per sé, but I can’t deny that it’s got some neat things in it.

“El Dorado” finds Shakira continuing to grow as a performer, even if she’s sticking to club tracks and love ballads. She’s developing a fitting, casual subtlety.
