  • Louder Sound

It’s an odd mix of styles and sounds, but it retains enough identity to be recognisably Papa Roach. That said, if you weren’t enamoured by the last album or wish they would return to something more in line with 2000’s Infest, you’re going to be disappointed once again. For everyone else, this is another brave release by a band who simply refuse to turn on autopilot. It doesn’t always stick, but what does is highly enjoyable.

In this, Ego Trip continues to wave an already familiar flag, but one whose colors shine a little brighter and sentiments dig a little deeper, offering an alternate glimpse of its torchbearers.

  • Kerrang!

Sure, some songs are better than others, but Ego Trip’s a rare thing: a 14-track album that features not a single duffer. Many bands have melted under a zeitgeist-obsessed music industry’s constantly shifting gaze. Papa Roach fought back – and their 11th album is one mighty achievement.

  • Sputnik Music

This record comprises fourteen tracks, yet manages to be nothing more than a bad concoction of bad pop punk, bad rap rock, bad lyrics, and vaguely competent performances. Ego Trip is a thing that exists now. What you do with that information will probably tell you a lot about your (mental) age.

Papa Roach are perfectly designed for live performance. But this can also be their curse, with some studio offerings getting lost in translation. If ‘Ego Trip’ shifts toward being another notable staple for the band, it lurches away from becoming the truly memorable chapter it should have been. Even so, if ‘Ego Trip’ is not a convincing first listen, never quite scaling the same summits Papa Roach did in yesteryear, it has its moments of glory. Even as many more are trying to get out.

  • Distorted Sound Magazine

Times and genres are changing and PAPA ROACH have displayed that they are willing to move with the rest of us, clearly displaying their talents in every genre of music within this album. It’s a beautiful thing – no two songs are the same, with the record ranging from acoustic ballads, to rap tracks full of trap drums, to the aggressive vocals and heavy distortion that we know and love as PAPA ROACH. They have blended more conventional and traditional rock and metal elements with anything and everything else to create an album that truly has something for everyone.

  • New Transcendence

Ego Trip is everything you’d want from a Papa Roach album. Whether it’s the old-school, “Coby Dick” rock/rap sound you want, the radio-friendly or (like most of us) the emotion, angst and message that they’ve carried.. this album has something for everyone. The fact that they managed to release an album that is so impactful, so experimental and yet so crucial in the year 2022 is a statement to where they stand in the music scene. Explosive, filled with twists and turns, this album will leave you on the edge of your seat wanting more.

The album isn't one note but largely it's about energy, rage and hard rock catharsis. Just as Roach fans like it.

Papa Roach can’t get out of a slump. They may feel Ego Trip has the answers, but it falls flat almost instantly. This band has had times when the music seemed gracious, with a beating heart. But those days of wonder are long gone.

Overall, ‘Ego Trip’ is proof that Papa Roach still have their finger on the beating pulse of heavy music. They’ve pushed boundaries in the past, and they’re still dead-set on being as bold as ever. This release is proof that, after all these years, the band’s passion still burns bright as ever.

And after almost 30 years of existence, ten studio albums and unstable genre and sound changes, with "Ego Trip" Papa Roach somehow delivered a solid enough record, that sounds enough refreshing and fun. Of course you can't hear something groundbreaking here - and you can't get the new "Infest" - because the band is constantly changing, for better or for worse - and in the case of "Ego Trip" it seems to be a good step. Yes, it's still a commercial record, but it sounds surprisingly refreshing and good - especially compared to the previous albums of the band since almost 2000's - and seems Papa Roach really had fun recording it - so there's a chance you'll have some fun too.

Eleven albums in, and Ego Trip sees Papa Roach finding catharsis whilst embracing change. Not the time for comfort in their career or conforming to the norms, Papa Roach are bringing something that does not want to let its foot of the accelerator here. Who are we to stop it?

Whether it be through a pair of headphones, loaded into your car stereo, or blasting out of the living room speakers, Papa Roach’s music has that special quality of making you feel like you are right there with them in the front row; their 11th studio album Ego Trip achieves no less.

  • Total Ntertainment

The last two years have been fairly horrendous for everybody but, as we come through the other side, bands like Papa Roach are leading the charge with anthem-filled collections and, just as was the case all those years ago as we screamed along to nu-metal staples like “Broken Home”, Papa Roach and “Ego Trip” are going to provide the perfect soundtrack to get through 2022.
