Echos, Silence, Patience & Grace
| Foo FightersEchos, Silence, Patience & Grace
Echoes, Silence, Patience & Graceis the sixth studio album by American rock band Foo Fighters, released on September 25, 2007 by RCA Records. The album is noted for a blend of regular rock and acoustic tracks with shifting dynamics, which emerged from the variety of styles employed on the demos the band produced. It also marks the second time the band worked with producer Gil Norton, whom frontman Dave Grohl brought to fully explore the potential of his compositions and have a record that sounded different from their previous work. Grohl tried to focus on songs with messages that resonated on the audience, writing reflective lyrics which drew inspiration from the birth of his daughter.-Wikipedia

Pitdhfork
Consequently, they're sounding less and less relatable, leaving us pining
-
AV Club
Fighters' most restrained album yet. It might even be called easy listening.
-
BBC
Falls painfully short of the mark.
-
Drowned in Sound
Their quiet-quiet-LOUD-quiet-quiet-LOUD dynamics, show an admirable dedication towards keeping the spirit of the 1990s alive.
-
NME
Almost a perfect 50/50, acoustic-electric, angelic-vitriolic split
-
Paste Magazine
After meandering, rock royalty returns to form. The record sounds lush and epic, with a variety of genres and sounds
-
The Gaurdian
Sixth and most accomplished album
-
Modern Rock Review
This entire record is solid, the final stretch of Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace is the most rewarding.
-
Sputnik Music
Fighters release another average album.
-
IGN
Interesting and annoyingly catchy.
-
All Music
Enough to make this seem like just another Foo Fighters album instead of the consolidation of strengths that it was intended to be.
-
Ultimate Guitar
9/10 They don't go leaps and bounds out of their comfort zone.
-
BOL
It varies from hard rock songs to soft songs with deep lyrics.
-
Music OHM
As with all Foo Fighters albums, there’s a small degree of filler on here
-
Alternative Addiction
It’s easy to describe this album as being good, because that’s what it is, unfortunately just because it’s good, doesn’t make it the best
-
OOR
Rock even harder until we get close to Motörhead or deepen the quiet (semi-) acoustic side? It became the middle area. Or something.
-
Uncut UK
Attempts to reconcile more of his contrary impulses goes to work doing something much more aggressive
-
Pop Matters
Sound like Bob Seger fronting for your garden variety modern hard rock group.
-
Spin
But at this point, Foo Fighters’ consistency has become predictability, and it threatens to trap them in the modern-rock ghetto
-
Hifi
Fighters do what they are good at on this very good-sounding album
-
EW
Modern-day CD that reverberates with the conviction and artistry of bygone days comes along to blow a jaded mind or two.
-
Clash Music
Instantly classic model of modern rock
-
Web Wombat
Here for the long run, but they need a little more 'anti-hero' and a little less 'white knight. '
-
Humo
We can actually be very short about the ten other songs ('completely superfluous': voilà!)
-
Mighty Ape NZ
Upholds the band's allegiance to melody-heavy post-grunge power pop driven by roaring guitars and Dave Grohl's fine songwriting.
-
Melodic
The songs are great and the production is at its best.
-
Independent
Foos' signature powerhouse rock style leavened here with occasional touches of piano, strings or accordion, and plenty of acoustic guitar passages
-
Metal Reviews
So ultimately yes, there are heavier Rockers than the Foos out there - but few have bought such refinement to their art.
-
Highway 81
Strongest and most exciting record in more than a decade.
-
Laut
Grohl's discovery of the acoustic guitar was a direct hit
-
Flick of the Finger
As amazing as the acoustic material is on this album, nothing compares to the much heavier more distinct songs.
-
The Crimson
But the evolution reveals a more sophisticated side of the band; thankfully, Grohl and company have learned that good rock doesn’t always have to go all out.
-
Sound Opinions
They are catchy and not that complicated. 2 trash its.
-
Teen Ink
Standing strong after so many years of great music, it proves that they can be versatile.
-
Three Monkeys
You get the nagging feeling that this is a band that could do so much better. There are no ‘bad’ songs on the album.
-
WIBD
Give it a chance and you will find a deep reflective treasure buried inside.
