Echoes from the Underground

Echoes from the Underground is the sixth studio album from the band Vertical Horizon, released on October 8, 2013. "Broken Over You" was released as the lead single. Rush drummer Neil Peart played the drums on two songs on the album, including "Instamatic". After the band's 2009 album, Burning the Days, band co-founder Keith Kane left the band shortly after in 2010, to pursue solo project. The band's other co-founder, and frontman Matt Scannell turned to crowdfunding to financially support the creation of the album. Supporters who put down money ahead of time were allowed first access to over two years worth of "making of", behind the scenes footage of the album's creation, and a copy of the album upon release.-Wikipedia

October 8, 2013. Now the alt-rock band, which has been together since 1991 and just wrapped up an uber-popular summer tour, is back with their sixth studio release and this time fans will be surprised (happily, that is) by the deviation that lead singer, guitarist and songwriter Matt Scannell has taken from their traditional guitar-heavy sound.

Vertical Horizon's sixth studio album and seventh overall, 2013's Echoes from the Underground features more of the Washington band's melodic, anthemic guitar rock.

February 3, 2014. 'Echoes From the Underground' is an album of two halves, the first features the more familiar upbeat pop rock associated with Vertical Horizon and the second is perhaps more reflective and downbeat. The song writing brilliance still shines through on the Neon Trees-like 'Love Struck' or on the mellow dream-like 'Frost' where Scannell paints a picture of the impending winter as it's ushered in by the autumn but it's far more experimental.

June 18, 2014. Although the new album opens with a rebelliously distorted guitar track, yet her previous pop rock sound has not moved one millimeter away from the radio-ready, hit-suspicious, catchy pattern.

August 18, 2014. Echoes from the Underground is a gem of a pop-rock record that actually rocks.

June 20, 2014. What VERTICAL HORIZON plays on "Echoes From The Underground" is clearly mainstream pop, enriched now and then with a few modern rock elements, but on the whole, it still remains a craving for the Softie department.
